अथ तस्य वचश्श्रुत्वा भ्रातुर्निधनसंश्रयम् | प्रधर्षयितुमारेभे मुनिं क्रोधान्निशाचरः || ३ -११-६६

On hearing the news of the death of his brother, the demon Ilvala, out of anger, started attacking the sage. [3-11-66]

atha tasya vacazzrutvA bhrAturnidhanasaMzrayam | pradharSayitumArebhe muniM krodhAnnizAcaraH || 3 -11-66

सोऽभिद्रवन्मुनिश्रेष्ठं मुनिना दीप्ततेजसा | चक्षुषानलकल्पेन निर्दग्धो निधनं गतः || ३-११-६७

sanskrit

Ilvala who pounced upon Agastya, the best among the sages whose lustre lay consumed by the fire of his eyes which were in flames. [3-11-67]

english translation

so'bhidravanmunizreSThaM muninA dIptatejasA | cakSuSAnalakalpena nirdagdho nidhanaM gataH || 3-11-67

तस्यायमाश्रमो भ्रातुस्तटाकवनशोभितः | विप्रानुकम्पया येन कर्मेदं दुष्करं कृतम् || ३-११-६८

sanskrit

This hermitage embellishing with lake and woods belongs to the brother of Sage Agastya who has done this impossible deed just by his compassion towards Brahmans. [3-11-68]

english translation

tasyAyamAzramo bhrAtustaTAkavanazobhitaH | viprAnukampayA yena karmedaM duSkaraM kRtam || 3-11-68

एवं कथयमानस्य तस्य सौमित्रिणा सह | रामस्यास्तं ग गतः सूर्यः संध्या कालो अभ्यवर्तत || ३ -११-६९

While Rama was thus narrating to Lakshmana (the story of Agastya), the Sun set and evening closed in. [3-11-69 ]

evaM kathayamAnasya tasya saumitriNA saha | rAmasyAstaM ga gataH sUryaH saMdhyA kAlo abhyavartata || 3 -11-69

उपास्य पश्चिमां सन्ध्यां सह भ्रात्रा यथाविधि | प्रविवेशाऽश्रमपदं तमृषिं सोऽभ्यवादयत् || ३-११-७०

Rama with his brother Lakshmana duly offered oblations at twilight, entered the hermitage and greeted the sage with folded palms. [3-11-70]

upAsya pazcimAM sandhyAM saha bhrAtrA yathAvidhi | pravivezA'zramapadaM tamRSiM so'bhyavAdayat || 3-11-70
