'Just as a man ascends a tree only to hasten his own fall, just as the crab conceives and brings about her own ruin, so too, O sweet-smiling lady, by sheltering thee, I may bring about my own destruction.' ।। 4-8-26 ।।
'O noble lady, neither King Virata nor any other man may ever claim me, for I am under the protection of my five youthful husbands—Gandharvas, sons of a mighty Gandharva king. ' ।। 4-8-27 ।।
पुत्रा गन्धर्वराजस्य महासत्त्वस्य कस्य चित रक्षन्ति ते च मां नित्यं दुःखाचारा तथा नव अहम ।। ४-८-२८ ।।
'They are ever watchful and powerful. None may wrong me and escape unpunished. And I, too, live as one newly married, ever modest in conduct.' ।। 4-8-28 ।।
यॊ मे न दद्याद उच्छिष्टं न च पादौ परधावयेत परीयेयुस तेन वासेन गन्धर्वाः पतयॊ मम ।। ४-८-२९ ।।
'It is the wish of my Gandharva husbands that I should serve only those who treat me with respect — who do not offer me food that has been partaken of by others, nor order me to wash their feet.' ।। 4-8-29 ।।
