[वै] सपुत्रस्य वचः शरुत्वा विराटॊ राष्ट्रवर्धनः कषमयाम आस कौन्तेयं भस्म छन्नम इवानलम ॥ ४-६४-६ ॥
'Vaiśampāyana continued: “Upon hearing the words of his son, Virāṭa—that enhancer of his kingdom—sought to pacify the son of Kuntī, who was like fire concealed beneath ashes, in order to obtain his forgiveness."' ॥ 4-64-6 ॥
english translation
कषमयन्तं तु राजानं पाण्डवः परत्यभाषत चिरं कषान्तम इदं राजन न मन्युर विद्यते मम ॥ ४-६४-७ ॥
'And unto the king, desirous of pardon, the Pāṇḍava replied: ‘O King, I had forgiven thee already. Anger dwells not in me."' ॥ 4-64-7 ॥
english translation
यदि हय एतत पतेद भूमौ रुधिरं मम नस्ततः सराष्ट्रस तवं महाराज विनश्येथा न संशयः ॥ ४-६४-८ ॥
'Yet know this—had the blood from my nostrils fallen upon the ground, then surely, O monarch, thou and thy kingdom would have been destroyed.' ॥ 4-64-8 ॥
english translation
न दूषयामि ते राजन यच च हन्याद अदूषकम बलवन्तं महाराज कषिप्रं दारुणम आप्नुयात ॥ ४-६४-९ ॥
'Still, I do not censure thee for striking one who is guiltless. For, O King, the powerful are oftentimes wont to act with thoughtless severity.' ॥ 4-64-9 ॥

शॊणिते तु वयतिक्रान्ते परविवेश बृहन्नडा अभिवाद्य विराटं च कङ्कं चाप्य उपतिष्ठत ॥ ४-६४-१० ॥
'Vaiśampāyana continued: “When the bleeding had ceased, Vrihannalā entered the council-hall; and having bowed in reverence to both Virāṭa and Kanka, he stood in silence."' ॥ 4-64-10 ॥
