निपातिते दन्तिवरे पृथिव्यां; तरासाद विकर्णः सहसावतीर्य तूर्णं पदान्य अष्ट शतानि गत्वा; विविंशतेः सयन्दनम आरुरॊह ।। ४-६०-११ ।।

'And as that mighty elephant fell to the earth, Vikarna, alarmed, quickly leapt back nearly eight hundred paces and mounted the chariot of Vivingsati.' ।। 4-60-11 ।।

english translation

nipAtite dantivare pRthivyAM; tarAsAda vikarNaH sahasAvatIrya tUrNaM padAnya aSTa zatAni gatvA; viviMzateH sayandanama Aruròha || 4-60-11 ||

'And having felled that mighty elephant, vast as a mountain and resembling a mass of clouds, with a thunder-like arrow, the son of Pritha struck Duryodhana in the chest with another arrow of equal force.' ।। 4-60-12 ।।

nihatya nAgaM tu zareNa tena; vajròpamenAdrivarAmbudAbhama tathAvidhenaiva zareNa pArthò; duryòdhanaM vakSasi nirbibheda || 4-60-12 ||

'With both the elephant and the king struck down, and Vikarna broken and fleeing with the car’s attendants, the other warriors, overwhelmed by the arrows from the Gandiva, scattered in panic.' ।। 4-60-13 ।।

tatò gaje rAjani caiva bhinne; bhagne vikarNe ca sa pAdarakSe gANDIvamuktaira vizikhaiH paraNunnAsa; te yudha mukhyAH sahasApajagmuH || 4-60-13 ||

'Seeing the mighty elephant slain by Pārtha and the battlefield in disarray, Duryodhana, foremost of the Kurus, turned his chariot and fled precipitately in the direction away from Pārtha.' ।। 4-60-14 ।।

'Seeing Duryodhana, fearsome in form and rushing forward like a charging foe, the hero of the Kuru army, with wrathful intent, struck him with a well-aimed arrow that pierced the chest and made the blood gush forth.' ।। 4-60-15 ।।
