दुर्यॊधनश चापि तम उग्रतेजाः; पार्थश च दुर्यॊधनम एकवीरः अन्यॊन्यम आजौ पुरुषप्रवीरौ; समं समाजघ्नतुर आजमीढौ ।। ४-६०-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Duryodhana of formidable strength assailed Pārtha, and Pārtha, the foremost of heroes, returned the attack. These two peerless men, both scions of the Ajamida race, struck each other with equal force in the combat.' ।। 4-60-6 ।।

english translation

'Then, mounted on a furious elephant, vast as a mountain and supported by four cars, Vikarna charged against Jishnu, the son of Kunti.' ।। 4-60-7 ।।

'Seeing the enormous beast advancing at speed, Dhananjaya struck it on the head, between the temples, with an iron-tipped arrow of tremendous force, released from a bow drawn to the ear.' ।। 4-60-8 ।।

'And like the thunderbolt hurled by Indra, splitting a mountain, that vulturine-winged arrow shot by Pārtha pierced the massive elephant, as vast as a hill, through and through, even reaching its very feathers.' ।। 4-60-9 ।।

pArthena sRSTaH sa tu gArdhrapatra; A puGkhadezAta paraviveza nAgama vidArya zailapravara parakAzaM; yathAzaniH parvatama indra sRSTaH || 4-60-9 ||

'Struck by the shaft, the lord of the elephant species trembled and, deprived of strength, collapsed to the ground in intense anguish, like a mountain peak split by thunder.' ।। 4-60-10 ।।
