ततॊ भीष्मः शरान अष्टौ धवजे पार्थस्य वीर्यवान समपर्यन महावेगाञ शवसमानान इवॊरगान ॥ ४-५९-६ ॥
'And Bhīṣma, possessed of great energy, pierced Pārtha’s flag-staff with eight arrows.' ॥ 4-59-6 ॥
english translation
tatò bhISmaH zarAna aSTau dhavaje pArthasya vIryavAna samaparyana mahAvegAJa zavasamAnAna ivòragAna ॥ 4-59-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते धवजं पाण्डुपुत्रस्य समासाद्य पतत्रिणः जवलन्तः कपिम आजघ्नुर धवजाग्र निलयांश च तान ॥ ४-५९-७ ॥
'Those shafts, striking the lofty standard of the son of Pāṇḍu, smote the blazing ape and the other figures set upon the banner-top.' ॥ 4-59-7 ॥
english translation
te dhavajaM pANDuputrasya samAsAdya patatriNaH javalantaH kapima Ajaghnura dhavajAgra nilayAMza ca tAna ॥ 4-59-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ भल्लेन महता पृथु धारेण पाण्डवः छत्रं चिच्छेद भीष्मस्य तूर्णं तद अपतद भुवि ॥ ४-५९-८ ॥
'Then the son of Pāṇḍu, hurling a mighty javelin with a keen edge, cut down Bhīṣma’s white umbrella, which instantly fell to the earth.' ॥ 4-59-8 ॥
english translation
tatò bhallena mahatA pRthu dhAreNa pANDavaH chatraM ciccheda bhISmasya tUrNaM tada apatada bhuvi ॥ 4-59-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptधवजं चैवास्य कौन्तेयः शरैर अभ्यहनद दृढम शीघ्रकृद रथवाहांश च तथॊभौ पार्ष्णिसारथी ॥ ४-५९-९ ॥
'Thereafter, the light-handed son of Kuntī struck Bhīṣma’s flag-staff with many shafts, and then assailed his steeds, and the pair of charioteers guarding Bhīṣma’s flanks.' ॥ 4-59-9 ॥

dhavajaM caivAsya kaunteyaH zaraira abhyahanada dRDhama zIghrakRda rathavAhAMza ca tathòbhau pArSNisArathI ॥ 4-59-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतयॊस तद अभवद युद्धं तुमुलं लॊमहर्षणम भीष्मस्य सह पार्थेन बलिवासवयॊर इव ॥ ४-५९-१० ॥
'And unable to endure it longer, Bhīṣma—though well aware of the Pāṇḍava’s might—covered Dhanañjaya with a mighty celestial weapon.' ॥ 4-59-10 ॥

tayòsa tada abhavada yuddhaM tumulaM lòmaharSaNama bhISmasya saha pArthena balivAsavayòra iva ॥ 4-59-10 ॥
