'Vaisampayana said: “Then, O mighty king, the son of Drona rushed upon Arjuna in battle, his onset fierce as a storm-wind, and his arrows pouring down like rain from a thundercloud."' ।। 4-54-1 ।।
'Pṛithā’s son met him with a vast network of shafts, like cloud answering cloud. Fierce and unyielding was their encounter, as if the gods themselves contended with the Dānavas, and they loosed their arrows at each other like Virāṭa and Vāsava in their wrath.' ।। 4-54-2 ।।
'Then, O subduer of hostile cities, as the two warriors struck and counterstruck, a great din arose, like the crackling of bamboos in a blazing fire.' ।। 4-54-4 ।।
