अश्वत्थामा तु तत कर्म हृदयेन महात्मनः पूजयाम आस पार्थस्य कॊपं चास्याकरॊद भृशम ॥ ४-५३-६६ ॥
'Aśvatthāman, however, in his heart honoured that feat of the high-souled Pārtha, yet at the same time was greatly inflamed with wrath against him.' ॥ 4-53-66 ॥
english translation
स मन्युवशम आपन्नः पार्थम अभ्यद्रवद रणे किरञ शरसहस्राणि पर्जन्य इव वृष्टिमान ॥ ४-५३-६७ ॥
'Inflamed with wrath, he rushed upon Partha, loosing an arrowy deluge like a torrential downpour from the clouds.' ॥ 4-53-67 ॥

आवृत्य तु महाबाहुर यतॊ दरौणिस ततॊ हयान अन्तरं परददौ पार्थॊ दरॊणस्य वयपसर्पितुम ॥ ४-५३-६८ ॥
'Turning his steeds towards Drona’s son, Partha allowed Drona a chance to quit the field.' ॥ 4-53-68 ॥

स तु लब्ध्वान्तरं तूर्णम अपायाज जवनैर हयैः छिन्नवर्म धवजः शूरॊ निकृत्तः परमेषुभिः ॥ ४-५३-६९ ॥
'Then the preceptor, wounded in that fierce encounter, his armour shattered and his banner gone, sped away from the field upon his fleet steeds.' ॥ 4-53-69 ॥
