[भीस्म] कलांशास तात युज्यन्ते मुहूर्ताश च दिनानि च अर्धमासाश च मासाश च नक्षत्राणि गरहास तथा ॥ ४-४७-१ ॥

'Bhishma said, "O son, the fractions of an hour, the hours, the days, the fortnights, the months, and also the positions of the stars — all these are engaged or taken into account."' ॥ 4-47-1 ॥

english translation

[bhIsma] kalAMzAsa tAta yujyante muhUrtAza ca dinAni ca ardhamAsAza ca mAsAza ca nakSatrANi garahAsa tathA ॥ 4-47-1 ॥

ऋतवश चापि युज्यन्ते तथा संवत्सरा अपि एवं कालविभागेन कालचक्रं परवर्तते ॥ ४-४७-२ ॥

'The seasons (ṛtus) are also joined in their proper order, and so are the years. Thus, through the division of time, the wheel of time continuously revolves.' ॥ 4-47-2 ॥

english translation

Rtavaza cApi yujyante tathA saMvatsarA api evaM kAlavibhAgena kAlacakraM paravartate ॥ 4-47-2 ॥

तेषां कालातिरेकेण जयॊतिषां च वयतिक्रमात पञ्चमे पञ्चमे वर्षे दवौ मासाव उपजायतः ॥ ४-४७-३ ॥

'Due to the fractional excesses and deviations of these celestial bodies, an additional two months are added every five years.' ॥ 4-47-3 ॥

तेषाम अभ्यधिका मासाः पञ्च दवादश च कषपाः तरयॊदशानां वर्षाणाम इति मे वर्तते मतिः ॥ ४-४७-४ ॥

'By this calculation, there is an excess of five months and twelve nights over a span of thirteen years.' ॥ 4-47-4 ॥

teSAma abhyadhikA mAsAH paJca davAdaza ca kaSapAH tarayòdazAnAM varSANAma iti me vartate matiH ॥ 4-47-4 ॥

सर्वं यथावच चरितं यद यद एभिः परिश्रुतम एवम एतद धरुवं जञात्वा ततॊ बीभत्सुर आगतः ॥ ४-४७-५ ॥

'Therefore, everything that the sons of Pandu promised has been precisely fulfilled. Knowing this with certainty, Vibhatsu (Arjuna) has appeared at the appointed time.' ॥ 4-47-5 ॥
