मन्ये तवां कलीब वेषेण चरन्तं शूलपाणिनम गन्धर्वराजप्रतिमं देवं वापि शतक्रतुम ॥ ४-४०-११ ॥
'Truly, you appear to me to be none other than Mahadeva, Indra, or the chief of the Gandharvas, merely disguised in the form of one belonging to the third sex.' ॥ 4-40-11 ॥

[अर्ज] भरातुर नियॊगाज जयेष्ठस्य संवत्सरम इदं वरतम चरामि बरह्मचर्यं वै सत्यम एतद बरवीमि ते ॥ ४-४०-१२ ॥
'Arjuna said: "I speak the truth when I say that I have been observing this vow for an entire year, in obedience to the command of my elder brother."' ॥ 4-40-12 ॥

नास्मि कलीबॊ महाबाहॊ परवान धर्मसंयुतः समाप्तव्रतम उत्तीर्णं विद्धि मां तवं नृपात्मज ॥ ४-४०-१३ ॥
'O mighty-armed prince, I am not truly one of the neuter sex. I assumed this guise of a eunuch out of submission to another’s will and in pursuit of religious merit. But now, O prince, know that my vow has come to an end.' ॥ 4-40-13 ॥

[उत्तर] परमॊ ऽनुग्रहॊ मे ऽदय यत परतर्कॊ न मे वृथा न हीदृशाः कलीब रूपा भवन्तीह नरॊत्तमाः ॥ ४-४०-१४ ॥
'Uttara said: "You have bestowed a great favor upon me today, for I now see that my suspicion was not without reason. Truly, O best of men, one such as you could never be of the neuter sex."' ॥ 4-40-14 ॥

सहायवान अस्मि रणे युध्येयम अमरैर अपि साध्वसं तत परनष्टं मे किं करॊमि बरवीहि मे ॥ ४-४०-१५ ॥
'Now I have a true ally in battle — one with whom I could even dare to face the celestials themselves. My fears have vanished. What would you have me do? Command me now.' ॥ 4-40-15 ॥
