जया कषेपणं करॊधकृतं नेमी निनददुन्दुभिः नगरं ते मया गुप्तं रथॊपस्थं भविष्यति ॥ ४-४०-६ ॥
'My bowstring shall serve as catapults and cannons, launching missiles against the besieging foe. My fierce wrath will make this fortress formidable, and the rumble of my chariot wheels shall echo like the kettle drums of thy capital.' ॥ 4-40-6 ॥
english translation
अधिष्ठितॊ मया संख्ये रथॊ गाण्डीवधन्वना अजेयः शत्रुसैन्यानां वैराटे वयेतु ते भयम ॥ ४-४०-७ ॥
'With me wielding the Gandiva on this chariot, no hostile host can hope to conquer us. O son of Virata, let thy fears be dispelled!' ॥ 4-40-7 ॥
english translation
[उत्तर] बिभेमि नाहम एतेषां जानामि तवां सथिरं युधि केशवेनापि संग्रामे साक्षाद इन्द्रेण वा समम ॥ ४-४०-८ ॥
'Uttara said: "I fear no longer these foes, for I know thy steadfastness in battle— a steadiness like unto Kesava or even Indra himself."' ॥ 4-40-8 ॥

इदं तु चिन्तयन्न एव परिमुह्यामि केवलम निश्चयं चापि दुर्मेधा न गच्छामि कथं चन ॥ ४-४०-९ ॥
'Yet, pondering this deeply, I remain confused and bewildered. And, indeed, I am too dull-witted to find any clear conclusion.' ॥ 4-40-9 ॥

एवं वीराङ्गरूपस्य लक्षणैर उचितस्य च केन कर्म विपाकेन कलीबत्वम इदम आगतम ॥ ४-४०-१० ॥
'By what unfortunate destiny or deed could someone so blessed with handsome limbs and auspicious signs be deprived of manhood?' ॥ 4-40-10 ॥
