अहं ते संग्रहीष्यामि हयाञ शत्रुरथारुजः शिक्षितॊ हय अस्मि सारथ्ये तीर्थतः पुरुषर्षभ ॥ ४-४०-१६ ॥

'Trained in the art of chariot-driving by a skilled master, I shall, O bull among men, hold the reins of your steeds — horses mighty enough to shatter the ranks of enemy warriors.' ॥ 4-40-16 ॥

ahaM te saMgrahISyAmi hayAJa zatrurathArujaH zikSitò haya asmi sArathye tIrthataH puruSarSabha ॥ 4-40-16 ॥

दारुकॊ वासुदेवस्य यथा शक्रस्य मातलिः तथा मां विद्धि सारथ्ये शिक्षितं नरपुंगव ॥ ४-४०-१७ ॥

'Know me, O bull among men, to be as skilled a charioteer as Daruka is to Vasudeva, or Matali to Shakra.' ॥ 4-40-17 ॥

english translation

dArukò vAsudevasya yathA zakrasya mAtaliH tathA mAM viddhi sArathye zikSitaM narapuMgava ॥ 4-40-17 ॥

यस्य याते न पश्यन्ति भूमौ पराप्तं पदं पदम दक्षिणं यॊ धुरं युक्तः सुग्रीव सदृशॊ हयः ॥ ४-४०-१८ ॥

'The horse yoked to the right-hand pole of your chariot—whose hooves seem to scarcely touch the ground as he runs—is like Sugriva, the steed of Krishna.' ॥ 4-40-18 ॥

yasya yAte na pazyanti bhUmau parAptaM padaM padama dakSiNaM yò dhuraM yuktaH sugrIva sadRzò hayaH ॥ 4-40-18 ॥

यॊ ऽयं धुरं धुर्यवरॊ वामं वहति शॊभन तं मन्ये मेघपुष्पस्य जवेन सदृशं हयम ॥ ४-४०-१९ ॥

'The other, a handsome horse and foremost of his breed, yoked to the left-hand pole, I consider to be equal in speed to Meghapushpa.' ॥ 4-40-19 ॥

yò 'yaM dhuraM dhuryavarò vAmaM vahati zòbhana taM manye meghapuSpasya javena sadRzaM hayama ॥ 4-40-19 ॥

यॊ ऽयं काञ्चनसंनाहः पार्ष्णिं वहति शॊभनः वामं सैन्यस्य मन्ये तं जवेन बलवत्तरम ॥ ४-४०-२० ॥

'This third beautiful horse, clad in golden mail and yoked to the rear left pole, I regard as equal in speed to Sivya but superior in strength.' ॥ 4-40-20 ॥

yò 'yaM kAJcanasaMnAhaH pArSNiM vahati zòbhanaH vAmaM sainyasya manye taM javena balavattarama ॥ 4-40-20 ॥
