समवेषं न कुर्वीत नात्युच्चैः संनिधौ हसेत मन्त्रं न बहुधा कुर्याद एवं राज्ञः परियॊ भवेत ॥ ४-४-४१ ॥
'One should neither dress like the king nor indulge in loud laughter in his presence, nor reveal royal secrets. By behaving thus, one may win the king’s favor.' ॥ 4-4-41 ॥
english translation
न कर्मणि नियुक्तः सन धनं किं चिद उपस्पृशेत पराप्नॊति हि हरन दरव्यं बन्धनं यदि वा वधम ॥ ४-४-४२ ॥
'When commissioned to a task, one should not accept bribes, for by such misappropriation one risks imprisonment or death.' ॥ 4-4-42 ॥
english translation
यानं वस्त्रम अलंकारं यच चान्यत संप्रयच्छति तद एव धारयेन नित्यम एवं परियतरॊ भवेत ॥ ४-४-४३ ॥
'The robes, ornaments, chariots, and other gifts the king bestows should always be used, as doing so wins royal favor.' ॥ 4-4-43 ॥

संवत्सरम इमं तात तथा शीला बुभूषवः अथ सवविषयं पराप्य यथाकामं चरिष्यथ ॥ ४-४-४४ ॥
'O sons of Pandu, control your minds and spend this year behaving in this manner. By regaining your kingdom, you may then live as you please.' ॥ 4-4-44 ॥

अनुशिष्टाः सम भद्रं ते नैतद वक्तास्ति कश चन कुन्तीम ऋते मातरं नॊ विदुरं च महामतिम ॥ ४-४-४५ ॥
'Yudhishthira said: "We have been well instructed by you. Blessings upon you. None but our mother Kunti or the wise Vidura could have spoken to us in such a manner."' ॥ 4-4-45 ॥
