शरेयः सदात्मनॊ दृष्ट्वा परं राज्ञा न संवदेत विशेषयेन न राजानं यॊग्या भूमिषु सर्वदा ॥ ४-४-३६ ॥
'No one should, out of self-interest, hold secret communications with the king’s enemies. Nor should any one attempt to outshine the king in matters requiring skill and talent.' ॥ 4-4-36 ॥
english translation
अम्लानॊ बलवाञ शूरश छायेवानपगः सदा सत्यवादी मृदुर दान्तः स राजवसतिं वसेत ॥ ४-४-३७ ॥
'He who is always cheerful and strong, brave and truthful, mild and self-controlled, and who follows his master like a shadow, alone deserves to dwell in a royal household.' ॥ 4-4-37 ॥
english translation
अन्यस्मिन परेष्यमाणे तु पुरस्ताद यः समुत्पतेत अहं किं करवाणीति स राजवसतिं वसेत ॥ ४-४-३८ ॥
'He who, when entrusted with a task, steps forward saying, ‘I will do this,’ is likewise worthy of such a place.' ॥ 4-4-38 ॥
english translation
उष्णे वा यदि वा शीते रात्रौ वा यदि वा दिवा आदिष्टॊ न विकल्पेत स राजवसतिं वसेत ॥ ४-४-३९ ॥
'Moreover, one who undertakes any assigned duty—whether within the king’s domain or beyond—without fear is fit to reside in the royal household.' ॥ 4-4-39 ॥

यॊ वै गृहेभ्यः परवसन परियाणां नानुसंस्मरेत दुःखेन सुखम अन्विच्छेत स राजवसतिं वसेत ॥ ४-४-४० ॥
'He who, living away from home, does not forget his loved ones, and who endures present hardships in hope of future happiness, alone deserves to dwell in a royal household.' ॥ 4-4-40 ॥
