ददृशे पार्थिवॊ रेणुर जनितस तेन सर्पता दृष्टिप्रणाशॊ भूतानां दिवस्पृश नरसत्तम ॥ ४-३६-६ ॥
'Then, O best of the Kurus, a great cloud of dust—raised by the movement of that immense host—rose high into the heavens, veiling the sight of all creatures.' ॥ 4-36-6 ॥

तद अनीकं महद दृष्ट्वा जगाश्वरथसंकुलम कर्णदुर्यॊधन कृपैर गुप्तं शांतनवेन च ॥ ४-३६-७ ॥
'Beholding that mighty force teeming with elephants, horses, and chariots—shielded by warriors such as Karna, Duryodhana, Kripa, Bhishma the son of Shantanu .' ॥ 4-36-7 ॥
english translation
दरॊणेन च सपुत्रेण महेष्वासेन धीमता हृष्टरॊमा भयॊद्विग्नः पार्थं वैराटिर अब्रवीत ॥ ४-३६-८ ॥
' .and that wise and mighty archer Drona along with his son Aswatthaman— the son of Virata became overwhelmed with fear. His limbs trembled, and the hair on his body stood on end. Terrified, he turned to Partha and said:' ॥ 4-36-8 ॥

नॊत्सहे कुरुभिर यॊद्धुं रॊमहर्षं हि पश्य मे बहु परवीरम अत्युग्रं देवैर अपि दुरासदम परतियॊद्धुं न शक्ष्यामि कुरुसैन्यम अनन्तकम ॥ ४-३६-९ ॥
'I dare not fight with the Kurus. Look—my very hairs have stood on end! I am incapable of battling this vast and countless host of the Kurus, abounding in mighty warriors. They are exceedingly fierce, and even the celestials would find them difficult to defeat.' ॥ 4-36-9 ॥

नाशंसे भारतीं सेनां परवेष्टुं भीमकार्मुकाम रथनागाश्वकलिलां पत्तिध्वजसमाकुलाम दृष्ट्वैव हि परान आजाव आत्मा परव्यथतीव मे ॥ ४-३६-१० ॥
'I do not have the courage to enter that army of the Bharatas, filled with terrible archers, and teeming with horses, elephants, chariots, foot soldiers, and fluttering banners. Even at the mere sight of the enemy drawn up on the field, my heart seems to tremble within me.' ॥ 4-36-10 ॥
