[वै] स राजधान्या निर्याय वैराटिः पृथिवीं जयः परयाहीत्य अब्रवीत सूतं यत्र ते कुरवॊ गताः ॥ ४-३६-१ ॥
'Vaiśampāyana said: Having set out from the city, the fearless son of Virata addressed his charioteer, saying: “Drive to the place where the Kurus have gone."' ॥ 4-36-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] sa rAjadhAnyA niryAya vairATiH pRthivIM jayaH parayAhItya abravIta sUtaM yatra te kuravò gatAH ॥ 4-36-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमवेतान कुरून यावज जिगीशून अवजित्य वै गाश चैषां कषिप्रम आदाय पुनर आयामि सवं पुरम ॥ ४-३६-२ ॥
'I shall defeat this assembled Kuru host that has come here seeking victory, swiftly recover my cattle from them, and return to the capital.' ॥ 4-36-2 ॥
english translation
samavetAna kurUna yAvaja jigIzUna avajitya vai gAza caiSAM kaSiprama AdAya punara AyAmi savaM purama ॥ 4-36-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततस तांश चॊदयाम आस सदश्वान पाण्डुनन्दनः ते हया नरसिंहेन चॊदिता वातरंहसः आलिखन्त इवाकाशम ऊहुः काञ्चनमालिनः ॥ ४-३६-३ ॥
'At these bold words of the prince, the son of Pandu urged forward those excellent steeds. Adorned with golden ornaments and endowed with the swiftness of the wind, the steeds—driven by that lion among men—seemed as though they were flying through the sky.' ॥ 4-36-3 ॥

tatasa tAMza còdayAma Asa sadazvAna pANDunandanaH te hayA narasiMhena còditA vAtaraMhasaH Alikhanta ivAkAzama UhuH kAJcanamAlinaH ॥ 4-36-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनातिदूरम अथॊ यात्वा मत्स्यपुत्र धनंजयौ अवेक्षेताम अमित्रघ्नौ कुरूणां बलिनां बलम शमशानम अभितॊ गत्वा आससाद कुरून अथ ॥ ४-३६-४ ॥
'They had not gone far when those slayers of foes—Dhananjaya (Arjuna) and the prince of Matsya—caught sight of the mighty army of the Kurus. Proceeding toward the cremation ground, they came upon the Kauravas and beheld their forces already drawn up in battle array.' ॥ 4-36-4 ॥

nAtidUrama athò yAtvA matsyaputra dhanaMjayau avekSetAma amitraghnau kurUNAM balinAM balama zamazAnama abhitò gatvA AsasAda kurUna atha ॥ 4-36-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद अनीकं महत तेषां विबभौ सागरस्वनम सर्पमाणम इवाकाशे वनं बहुल पादपम ॥ ४-३६-५ ॥
'And that vast army of theirs looked like the surging ocean, or a dense forest of countless trees gliding across the sky.' ॥ 4-36-5 ॥

tada anIkaM mahata teSAM vibabhau sAgarasvanama sarpamANama ivAkAze vanaM bahula pAdapama ॥ 4-36-5 ॥
