[बृहन] नैष पूर्वैः समृतॊ धर्मः कषत्रियस्य पलायनम शरेयस ते मरणं युद्धे न भीतस्य पलायनम ॥ ४-३६-२६ ॥
'But Vrihannala cried out after him, “This is not the way of the brave! A Kshatriya must not flee the battlefield. Better to die fighting than to run away in fear!”' ॥ 4-36-26 ॥
english translation
[वै] एवम उक्त्वा तु कौन्तेयः सॊ ऽवप्लुत्य रथॊत्तमात तम अन्वधावद धावन्तं राजपुत्रं धनंजयः दीर्घां वेणीं विधुन्वानः साधु रक्ते च वाससी ॥ ४-३६-२७ ॥
'Having spoken thus, Dhananjaya—the son of Kunti—descended from that excellent chariot and ran after the fleeing prince, his long braid and crimson garments streaming behind him in the wind.' ॥ 4-36-27 ॥
english translation
विधूय वेणीं धावन्तम अजानन्तॊ ऽरजुनं तदा सैनिकाः पराहसन के चित तथारूपम अवेक्ष्य तम ॥ ४-३६-२८ ॥
'And some soldiers, unaware that it was Arjuna running with his braid fluttering in the wind, burst into laughter at the sight.' ॥ 4-36-28 ॥
english translation
तं शीघ्रम अभिधावन्तं संप्रेक्ष्य कुरवॊ ऽबरुवन क एष वेषप्रच्छन्नॊ भस्मनेव हुताशनः ॥ ४-३६-२९ ॥
'Beholding him flee in that peculiar form, the Kurus began to murmur among themselves: "Who is this person, disguised like fire hidden in ashes?"' ॥ 4-36-29 ॥

किं चिद अस्य यथा पुंसः किं चिद अस्य यथा सत्रियः सारूप्यम अर्जुनस्येव कलीब रूपं बिभर्ति च ॥ ४-३६-३० ॥
'He seems neither wholly man nor wholly woman— a neuter form, yet strangely reminiscent of Arjuna.' ॥ 4-36-30 ॥
