भीमाश च मत्तमातङ्गाः परभिन्नकरटा मुखाः कषरन्त इव जीमूताः सुदन्ताः षष्टिहायनाः ॥ ४-३०-२६ ॥
'And infuriated elephants of fearsome appearance, sixty years old, with perfectly shaped tusks and temples split from passion, ichor streaming down their sides like rain from thunderclouds.' ॥ 4-30-26 ॥

bhImAza ca mattamAtaGgAH parabhinnakaraTA mukhAH kaSaranta iva jImUtAH sudantAH SaSTihAyanAH ॥ 4-30-26 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसवारूढा युद्धकुशलैः शिक्षितैर हस्तिसादिभिः राजानम अन्वयुः पश्चाच चलन्त इव पर्वताः ॥ ४-३०-२७ ॥
'Mounted by trained riders skilled in warfare, the elephants followed the king from behind, moving as if they were walking mountains.' ॥ 4-30-27 ॥

savArUDhA yuddhakuzalaiH zikSitaira hastisAdibhiH rAjAnama anvayuH pazcAca calanta iva parvatAH ॥ 4-30-27 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविशारदानां वश्यानां हृष्टानां चानुयायिनाम अष्टौ रथसरःस्राणि दशनागशतानि च पष्टिश चाश्वसहस्राणि मत्स्यानाम अभिनिर्ययुः ॥ ४-३०-२८ ॥
'And the foremost warriors of the Matsya host, following their sovereign with joyful hearts, brought with them eight thousand chariots, a thousand elephants, and sixty thousand horses.' ॥ 4-30-28 ॥

'O bull among the Bharatas, that mighty force of king Virata, as it advanced tracking the footprints of the stolen cattle, appeared exceedingly magnificent.' ॥ 4-30-29 ॥

tada anIkaM virATasya zuzubhe bharatarzabha saMprayAtaM mahArAja ninISantaM gavAM padama ॥ 4-30-29 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद बलाग्र्यं विराटस्य संप्रस्थितम अशॊभत दृढायुध जनाकीर्णं जगाश्वरथसंकुलम ॥ ४-३०-३० ॥
'Indeed, as it marched, that foremost of armies—bristling with armed soldiers, resplendent with elephants, chariots, and horses, and filled with the clamor of war—shone with a splendor all its own.' ॥ 4-30-30 ॥
