[वै] कीचकस्य तु घातेन सानुजस्य विशां पते अत्याहितं चिन्तयित्वा वयस्मयन्त पृथग्जनाः ॥ ४-२४-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said: “At the death of Kichaka and his brothers, the people, O king, were struck with astonishment, marvelling at the enormity of the deed."' ॥ 4-24-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] kIcakasya tu ghAtena sAnujasya vizAM pate atyAhitaM cintayitvA vayasmayanta pRthagjanAH ॥ 4-24-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्मिन पुरे जनपदे संजल्पॊ ऽभूच च सर्वशः शौर्याद धि वल्लभॊ राज्ञॊ महासत्त्वश च कीचकः ॥ ४-२४-२ ॥
'Throughout the city and across the provinces, word spread that both the king’s cook Vallava and Kichaka were warriors of extraordinary strength.' ॥ 4-24-2 ॥

tasmina pure janapade saMjalpò 'bhUca ca sarvazaH zauryAda dhi vallabhò rAjJò mahAsattvaza ca kIcakaH ॥ 4-24-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआसीत परहर्ता च नृणां दारामर्शी च दुर्मतिः स हतः खलु पापात्मा गन्धर्वैर दुष्टपूरुषः ॥ ४-२४-३ ॥
'The wicked Kichaka, however, had been a tormentor of men and a violator of other men's wives. It was for these sins that he, possessed of a sinful soul, had been slain by the Gandharvas.' ॥ 4-24-3 ॥

AsIta parahartA ca nRNAM dArAmarzI ca durmatiH sa hataH khalu pApAtmA gandharvaira duSTapUruSaH ॥ 4-24-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइत्य अजल्पन महाराजन परानीक विशातनम देशे देशे मनुष्याश च कीचकं दुष्प्रधर्षणम ॥ ४-२४-४ ॥
'And thus, O king, the people began speaking from province to province of the mighty and once-invincible Kichaka — that slayer of enemy forces.' ॥ 4-24-4 ॥

itya ajalpana mahArAjana parAnIka vizAtanama deze deze manuSyAza ca kIcakaM duSpradharSaNama ॥ 4-24-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ वै धार्तराष्ट्रेण परयुक्ता य बहिश्चराः मृगयित्वा बहून गरामान राष्ट्राणि नगराणि च ॥ ४-२४-५ ॥
'Meanwhile, the spies employed by Dhritarashtra’s son, having searched through many villages, towns, and kingdoms, and having carried out all the instructions given to them, returned to Nagarupa.' ॥ 4-24-5 ॥
