यदा हय एनं परिवृतं कन्याभिर देवरूपिणम परभिन्नम इव मातङ्गं परिकीर्णं करेणुभिः ॥ ४-१८-२१ ॥
'Whenever I behold the godlike Partha in the music-hall— like an elephant in rut, surrounded by she-elephants.' ॥ 4-18-21 ॥
english translation
yadA haya enaM parivRtaM kanyAbhira devarUpiNama parabhinnama iva mAtaGgaM parikIrNaM kareNubhiH ॥ 4-18-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमत्स्यम अर्थपतिं पार्थं विराटं समुपस्थितम पश्यामि तूर्यमध्य सथं दिश नश्यन्ति मे तदा ॥ ४-१८-२२ ॥
'Whenever I see Partha, the lord of the Matsya kingdom, standing before King Virata amidst the music-hall, I lose all sense of direction.' ॥ 4-18-22 ॥
english translation
matsyama arthapatiM pArthaM virATaM samupasthitama pazyAmi tUryamadhya sathaM diza nazyanti me tadA ॥ 4-18-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनूनम आर्या न जानाति कृच्छ्रं पराप्तं धनंजयम अजातशत्रुं कौरव्यं मग्नं दूद्यूत देविनम ॥ ४-१८-२३ ॥
'Surely, my mother-in-law knows not that Dhananjaya is enduring such profound distress. Nor does she know that Ajatasatru, the scion of the Kuru race, is sunk in misery, enslaved by the ruinous game of dice.' ॥ 4-18-23 ॥
english translation
nUnama AryA na jAnAti kRcchraM parAptaM dhanaMjayama ajAtazatruM kauravyaM magnaM dUdyUta devinama ॥ 4-18-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतथा दृष्ट्वा यवीयांसं सहदेवं युधां पतिम गॊषु गॊवेषम आयान्तं पाण्डुभूतास्मि भारत ॥ ४-१८-२४ ॥
'O Bharata, whenever I behold the youngest among you, Sahadeva, tending the cattle in the guise of a cowherd, my heart sinks and my face grows pale.' ॥ 4-18-24 ॥

tathA dRSTvA yavIyAMsaM sahadevaM yudhAM patima gòSu gòveSama AyAntaM pANDubhUtAsmi bhArata ॥ 4-18-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसहदेवस्य वृत्तानि चिन्तयन्ती पुनः पुनः न विन्दामि महाबाहॊ सहदेवस्य दुष्कृतम यस्मिन्न एवंविधं दुःखं पराप्नुयात सत्यविक्रमः ॥ ४-१८-२५ ॥
'Constantly thinking of his plight, I cannot find sleep, O Bhimasena— and what then can be said of the sorrow I feel for the rest of you? I know not, O mighty-armed one, what fault or sin Sahadeva might have committed that he, a hero of unshaken prowess, should now endure such misery.' ॥ 4-18-25 ॥

sahadevasya vRttAni cintayantI punaH punaH na vindAmi mahAbAhò sahadevasya duSkRtama yasminna evaMvidhaM duHkhaM parApnuyAta satyavikramaH ॥ 4-18-25 ॥
