[वै] अथापरॊ ऽदृश्यत रूपसंपदा; सत्रीणाम अलंकारधरॊ बृहत पुमान पराकारवप्रे परतिमुच्य कुण्डले; दीर्घे च कम्बू परिहाटके शुभे ॥ ४-१०-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'At the gate of the ramparts appeared another figure of enormous stature and exquisite beauty, adorned with women's ornaments—large ear-rings and beautiful conch-shell bracelets overlaid with gold.'' ॥ 4-10-1 ॥

[vai] athAparò 'dRzyata rUpasaMpadA; satrINAma alaMkAradharò bRhata pumAna parAkAravapre paratimucya kuNDale; dIrghe ca kambU parihATake zubhe ॥ 4-10-1 ॥

'Scattering his abundant and long hair, The mighty-armed one with the gait of an intoxicated elephant, Making the earth tremble with his stride, Approached Virata near the assembly hall.' ॥ 4-10-2 ॥

'Seeing him who had approached the king in the assembly hall, The destroyer of enemies, well-concealed in disguise, Resplendent with supreme radiance, The son of mighty Indra, possessed of an elephant-king's prowess.' ॥ 4-10-3 ॥

'When the men present declared the newcomer unknown to them, the king spoke in wonder: 'Possessed of great strength, you appear celestial in nature. Young and of dark complexion, you resemble the leader of an elephant herd. Though wearing golden conch-shell bracelets, a braid, and ear-rings.' ॥ 4-10-5 ॥
