Then the lord of the Kauravas, with the mighty Bhīṣma and Bhūriśravas beside him, advanced toward him, arrows raised in hand—like a blazing meteor moving as if to set a thicket aflame.

english translation

Then Bhūriśravas struck toward Arjuna with seven bhalla-arrows fitted with golden feathers. Duryodhana hurled a javelin of dreadful force; Śalya cast a mace; and the son of Śāṃtanu launched a spear.

english translation

He checked the seven superb arrows released by Bhūriśravas with seven of his own. Then, with a sharp razor-headed shaft, he cut down the javelin hurled from Duryodhana’s arm.

english translation

Next the warrior, with two arrows, severed the auspicious spear—radiant like lightning—launched by the son of Śāṃtanu; and likewise the mace released from the arm of the ruler of Madra.

english translation

Then, drawing back with mighty arms the wondrous, immeasurable bow Gāṇḍīva, he duly manifested in the open sky the formidable Māhendra weapon—an extraordinary marvel in the air.
