Setting aside the Pāñcāla foe, Droṇa—foremost among chariot-warriors—engaged the aged Virāṭa and Drupada, who had come together. Dhṛṣṭadyumna, for his part, advanced in battle toward Dharmarāja (Yudhiṣṭhira).

Then a tumultuous, hair-raising battle broke out between the Kaliṅgas and the high-souled Bhīma—an encounter ruinous in its consequences, grim in aspect, and fear-inspiring.
