यथानलं प्रज्वलितं पतंगाः समभिद्रुताः । विनाशायैव गच्छन्ति तथा मे सैनिको जनः॥६-४६-११॥
As moths, rushing toward a blazing fire, go only toward destruction—so too my soldiers are moving.
english translation
क्षयं नीतोऽस्मि वार्ष्णेय राज्यहेतोः पराक्रमी । भ्रातरश्चैव मे वीराः कर्शिताः शरपीडिताः॥६-४६-१२॥
O Vārṣṇeya, I have been brought to ruin for the sake of kingship. My heroic brothers too have been worn down, afflicted by arrows.

मत्कृते भ्रातृसौहार्दाद्राज्याद्भ्रष्टास्तथा सुखात् । जीवितं बहु मन्येऽहं जीवितं ह्यद्य दुर्लभम्॥६-४६-१३॥
Because of me, they have fallen away from fraternal concord, from sovereignty, and from comfort. I now regard life as of great value, for life today is difficult to secure.

जीवितस्य हि शेषेण तपस्तप्स्यामि दुश्चरम् । न घातयिष्यामि रणे मित्राणीमानि केशव॥६-४६-१४॥
With whatever remains of my life, I shall undertake arduous austerity. I will not cause these friends to be slain in battle, O Keśava.

रथान्मे बहुसाहस्रान्दिव्यैरस्त्रैर्महाबलः । घातयत्यनिशं भीष्मः प्रवराणां प्रहारिणाम्॥६-४६-१५॥
Bhīṣma, mighty in strength, continually neutralizes many thousands of my chariots with celestial weapons—those of the foremost combatants.
