Between those two, O lord of the people, there arose a battle of dreadful aspect; both, fiercely enraged and unyielding, strove to break each other’s formations.

english translation

Thus, in the battle, thousands of single combats arose among chariot-warriors, elephant-corps, cavalry, and infantry; and the field grew densely intermingled, your forces and theirs together.

english translation

For a brief interval that battle seemed orderly and clear to the eye; thereafter, O king, it turned as if into frenzy, and nothing could be distinctly made out.

english translation

In the clash, elephant met elephant, and chariot-warrior met chariot-warrior; horseman closed with horseman, and foot-soldier confronted foot-soldier.

english translation

Then the battle became exceedingly hard to withstand and utterly tumultuous, as the warriors there met one another directly upon the field.
