The term “sat” is used in the sense of “being” and in the sense of “goodness”; likewise, O Pārtha, the word “sat” is applied to commendable action.

english translation

Steadfastness in sacrifice, austerity, and giving is also called “sat”; and action performed for that purpose is likewise designated “sat” alone.

english translation

Whatever is offered, given, or practiced as austerity, and whatever is done without faith, is called ‘asat’, O Pārtha; it bears no consequence either after death or here in this life.
