Tell me, Saṃjaya, how that Bhīṣma—fit for the strength of a great chariot-warrior—was brought down in the engagement; for we find no reassurance in this.

english translation

Which of my great bowmen, O Saṃjaya, did not abandon their position? Which heroes, instructed by Duryodhana, formed a protective cordon?

english translation

When all the Pāṇḍavas, led by Śikhaṇḍin, advanced against Bhīṣma, did the Kurus—out of fear—abandon him, O steadfast Saṃjaya?

english translation

The twang of the bowstring was like thunder; the great discharge of arrows, like heavy rain; the roar of bows a vast sound—rising like a towering storm-cloud.

english translation

When he showered the sons of Kuntī—together with the Pāñcālas and the Sṛñjayas—while disabling opposing chariots, the hero resembled the wielder of the thunderbolt confronting the Dānavas.
