Now we shall discourse on the chapter which deals with the (symptoms and) pathology of the diseases affecting the eye as a whole.

स्यन्दास्तु चत्वार इहोपदिष्टास्तावन्त एवेह तथाऽधिमन्थाः । शोफान्वितोऽशोफयुतश्च पाकावित्येवमेते दश सम्प्रदिष्टाः ॥३॥
The four types of Abhishyanda (Ophthalmitis) are described here, as well as an equal number of Adhimantha (severe ophthalmia). Additionally, there are two forms of Akshi-paka (suppuration of the eye), one accompanied by swelling and the other without swelling. Thus, these ten conditions are explained.

यहाँ अभिष्यंद (नेत्र रोग) के चार प्रकारों का वर्णन किया गया है, साथ ही उतने ही प्रकार के अधिमंथ (गंभीर नेत्र रोग) का भी वर्णन किया गया है। इसके अतिरिक्त, अक्षि-पाक (आँख का मवाद) के दो रूप हैं, एक सूजन के साथ और दूसरा बिना सूजन के। इस प्रकार, इन दस स्थितियों की व्याख्या की गई है।

Hatadhimantha, Anila-Paryaya, Shushkakshipaka, Anyato-vata, Drishti, Amladhyushita, Sira-utpata, and Sira-harsha are also diseases that affect the entire eye.

हताधिमंथा, अनिल-पर्याय, शुष्कक्षिपक, अन्यतो-वात, दृष्टि, अमलाध्युषिता, सिरा-उत्पता और सिरा-हर्ष भी ऐसे रोग हैं जो पूरी आंख को प्रभावित करते हैं।

प्रायेण सर्वे नयनामयास्तु भवन्त्यभिष्यन्दनिमित्तमूलाः । तस्मादभिष्यन्दमुदीर्यमाणमुपाचरेदाशु हिताय धीमान् ॥५॥
Nearly all eye diseases generally originate from Abhishyanda (Ophthalmitis). Therefore, a wise physician should promptly treat Abhishyanda as soon as it manifests, for the well-being of the patient.
