Sushruta Samhita
रुजः सुतीव्राः प्रतनोति मूर्ध्नि विशेषतश्चापि हि शङ्खयोस्तु । सुकष्टमेनं खलु शङ्खकाख्यं महर्षयो वेदविदः पुराणाः ॥१७॥
The severe pain especially manifests in the head, and is especially intense in the region of the conch (ear). This very painful condition, known as Shamkhaka, is described by the great sages and those well-versed in the Vedas and Puranas.
english translation
यह भयंकर दर्द खास तौर पर सिर में होता है और शंख (कान) के क्षेत्र में यह विशेष रूप से तीव्र होता है। शंखक के नाम से जानी जाने वाली इस अत्यंत दर्दनाक स्थिति का वर्णन महान ऋषियों और वेदों और पुराणों के जानकारों द्वारा किया गया है।
