समीरणः श्रोत्रगतोऽन्यथाचरः समन्ततः शूलमतीव कर्णयोः | करोति दोषैश्च यथास्वमावृतः स कर्णशूलः कथितो दुराचरः ||६||

sanskrit

The wind (Vayu) that moves through the ear and causes intense pain in the ears, when it behaves differently and is obstructed by the doshas, is called Karna-Shula (ear-ache), and it is considered a harmful disorder.

यदा तु नाडीषु विमार्गमागतः स एव शब्दाभिवहासु तिष्ठति | शृणोति शब्दान् विविधांस्तदा नरः प्रणादमेनं कथयन्ति चामयम् ||७||

When the deranged Vayu, having deviated from its normal path, enters the channels, it remains in the sound-carrying pathways, causing the person to hear various sounds. This condition is called Pranada (ringing or noise in the ears).

स एव शब्दानुवहा यदा सिराः कफानुयातो व्यनुसृत्य तिष्ठति | तदा नरस्याप्रतिकारसेविनो भवेत्तु बाधिर्यमसंशयं खलु ||८||

When the channels are obstructed by the deranged Kapha, and the sounds cannot pass through properly, the person becomes deaf, without any remedy, causing Vadhirya (deafness) beyond doubt.

श्रमात् क्षयाद्रूक्षकषायभोजनात् समीरणः शब्दपथे प्रतिष्ठितः | विरिक्तशीर्षस्य च शीतसेविनः करोति हि क्ष्वेडमतीव कर्णयोः ||९||

Due to fatigue, emaciation, consumption of astringent or bitter foods, and exposure to cold, the deranged air gets established in the sound path. It causes a peculiar sound in the ears, especially in those with a tilted head position.

शिरोभिघातादथवा निमज्जतो जले प्रपाकादथवाऽपि विद्रधेः | स्रवेत्तु पूयं श्रवणोऽनिलावृतः स कर्णसंस्राव इति प्रकीर्तितः ||१०||

Due to a blow to the head, immersion in water, or the suppuration of an abscess, when the ear is obstructed by the deranged air, pus flows from the ear, and this condition is known as Karna-Srava (ear discharge).
