From the essence of red blood, the kidneys are formed; from the essence of flesh, blood, and phlegm, the testicles are produced; the heart is born from the essence of blood and phlegm, which indeed serve as the channels for life; below, on the left side, are the spleen and lungs, while the liver is located on the right; specifically, the site of consciousness is here; thus, enveloped in darkness, all living beings sleep in that space.

They say that the sleep called Vaishnavani touches all living beings naturally. When the consciousness is withdrawn, the tamas predominates, and at that time, sleep occurs, which is undifferentiated; it happens during the time of dissolution, in the nights of the most tamasic beings, without cause for the rajasic beings, and at half the night for the sattvic beings. For those with diminished phlegm and abundant air, and those suffering from heat in the body, it does not become a state of wakefulness.
