करालदंष्ट्रं करवालचञ्चलक्षुरान्तजिह्वं भ्रुकुटीमुखोल्बणम् । स्तब्धोर्ध्वकर्णं गिरिकन्दराद्भुतव्यात्तास्यनासं हनुभेदभीषणम् ।। ७-८-२१ ।।

sanskrit

His deadly teeth; and His razor-sharp tongue, which moved about like a dueling sword. His ears were erect and motionless, and His nostrils and gaping mouth appeared like caves of a mountain. His jaws parted fearfully, ।। 7-8-21 ।।

english translation

उनके दाँत मृत्यु-जैसे भयानक थे, उनकी उस्तरे जैसी तीक्ष्ण जीभ लड़ाई में तलवार के समान इधर-उधर चल रही थी; उनके कान खड़े तथा स्थिर थे और उनके नथुने तथा खुला मुख पर्वत की गुफा जैसे लग रहे थे। उनके जबड़े फैले हुए थे जिससे भय उत्पन्न हो रहा था ।। ७-८-२१ ।।

दिविस्पृशत्कायमदीर्घपीवरग्रीवोरुवक्षःस्थलमल्पमध्यमम् । चन्द्रांशुगौरैश्छुरितं तनूरुहैर्विष्वग्भुजानीकशतं नखायुधम् ।। ७-८-२२ ।।

And His entire body touched the sky. His neck was very short and thick, His chest broad, His waist thin, and the hairs on His body as white as the rays of the moon. His arms, which resembled flanks of soldiers, having nails as fatal weapons ।। 7-8-22 ।।

english translation

और उनका समूचा शरीर आसमान को छू रहा था। उनकी गर्दन अत्यन्त छोटी तथा मोटी थी; उनकी छाती चौड़ी थी तथा कमर पतली थी। उनके शरीर के रोएँ चन्द्रमा की किरणों के समान श्वेत लग रहे थे। उनकी भुजाएं चारों दिशाओं में फैले सैनिकों की टुकडिय़ों से मिलती जुलती थी, नाखून घातक हथियार के रूप में ।। ७-८-२२ ।।

दुरासदं सर्वनिजेतरायुधप्रवेकविद्रावितदैत्यदानवम् । प्रायेण मेऽयं हरिणोरुमायिना वधः स्मृतोऽनेन समुद्यतेन किम् ।। ७-८-२३ ।।

Spread in all directions as He killed the demons, rogues and atheists with His conchshell, disc, club, lotus and other natural weapons. Hiraṇyakaśipu murmured to himself, “Lord Viṣṇu, who possesses great mystic power, has made this plan to kill me, but what is the use of such an attempt? Who can fight with me?” ।। 7-8-23 ।।

english translation

जब वे असुरों धूर्तों तथा नास्तिकों का अपने शंख, चक्र, गदा, कमल तथा अन्य प्राकृतिक अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से वध कर रहे थे। हिरण्यकशिपु ने मन ही मन कहा : “अत्यधिक योग शक्ति वाले भगवान् विष्णु ने मेरा वध करने के लिए यह योजना बनाई है, किन्तु ऐसा प्रयास करने से क्या लाभ है? भला ऐसा कौन है, जो मुझसे युद्ध कर सकता है?” ।। ७-८-२३ ।।

एवं ब्रुवंस्त्वभ्यपतद्गदायुधो नदन् नृसिंहं प्रति दैत्यकुञ्जरः । अलक्षितोऽग्नौ पतितः पतङ्गमो यथा नृसिंहौजसि सोऽसुरस्तदा ।। ७-८-२४ ।।

Thinking like this and taking up his club, Hiraṇyakaśipu attacked the Lord like an elephant. Just as a small insect falls forcefully into a fire and the insignificant creature becomes invisible, when Hiraṇyakaśipu attacked the Lord, who was full of effulgence, Hiraṇyakaśipu became invisible. ।। 7-8-24 ।।

english translation

ऐसा सोचते हुए हाथी के समान हिरण्यकशिपु ने अपनी गदा उठाकर भगवान् पर आक्रमण कर दिया। जिस तरह एक बेचारा छोटा पतंगा बरबस अग्नि में गिरकर अदृश्य हो जाता है उसी तरह जब हिरण्यकशिपु ने तेजोमय भगवान् पर आक्रमण किया तो वह अदृश्य हो गया। ।। ७-८-२४ ।।

न तद्विचित्रं खलु सत्त्वधामनि स्वतेजसा यो नु पुरापिबत्तमः । ततोऽभिपद्याभ्यहनन्महासुरो रुषा नृसिंहं गदयोरुवेगया ।। ७-८-२५ ।।

Just as a small insect falls forcefully into a fire and the insignificant creature becomes invisible, when Hiraṇyakaśipu attacked the Lord, who was full of effulgence, Hiraṇyakaśipu became invisible. This is not at all astonishing, for the Lord is always situated in pure goodness. Formerly, during creation, He entered the dark universe and illuminated it by His spiritual effulgence. Thereafter, the great demon Hiraṇyakaśipu, who was extremely angry, swiftly attacked Nṛsiṁhadeva with his club and began to beat Him. ।। 7-8-25 ।।

english translation

यह आश्चर्यजनक नहीं है, क्योंकि भगवान् सदैव सतोगुण की स्थिति में रहते हैं। प्राचीन काल में सृष्टि के समय वे अंधकारपूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड में प्रविष्ट हो गये थे और उसे उन्होंने अपने आध्यात्मिक तेज से प्रकाशित कर दिया था। तत्पश्चात् अत्यन्त क्रुद्ध उस महान् असुर हिरण्यकशिपु ने तेजी से नृसिंह देव पर अपनी गदा से आक्रमण कर दिया और उन्हें मारने लगा। ।। ७-८-२५ ।।

na tadvicitraM khalu sattvadhAmani svatejasA yo nu purApibattamaH | tato'bhipadyAbhyahananmahAsuro ruSA nRsiMhaM gadayoruvegayA || 7-8-25 ||
