दुरासदं सर्वनिजेतरायुधप्रवेकविद्रावितदैत्यदानवम् । प्रायेण मेऽयं हरिणोरुमायिना वधः स्मृतोऽनेन समुद्यतेन किम् ॥ ७-८-२३ ॥
Spread in all directions as He killed the demons, rogues and atheists with His conchshell, disc, club, lotus and other natural weapons. Hiraṇyakaśipu murmured to himself, “Lord Viṣṇu, who possesses great mystic power, has made this plan to kill me, but what is the use of such an attempt? Who can fight with me?” ॥ 7-8-23 ॥

जब वे असुरों धूर्तों तथा नास्तिकों का अपने शंख, चक्र, गदा, कमल तथा अन्य प्राकृतिक अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से वध कर रहे थे। हिरण्यकशिपु ने मन ही मन कहा : “अत्यधिक योग शक्ति वाले भगवान् विष्णु ने मेरा वध करने के लिए यह योजना बनाई है, किन्तु ऐसा प्रयास करने से क्या लाभ है? भला ऐसा कौन है, जो मुझसे युद्ध कर सकता है?” ॥ ७-८-२३ ॥
