अहो तेजः क्षत्रियाणां मानभङ्गममृष्यताम् । बालोऽप्ययं हृदा धत्ते यत्समातुरसद्वचः ॥ ४-८-२६ ॥
How wonderful are the powerful kṣatriyas! They cannot tolerate even a slight infringement upon their prestige. Just imagine! This boy is only a small child, yet harsh words from his stepmother proved unbearable to him. ॥ 4-8-26 ॥
english translation
अहो! शक्तिशाली क्षत्रिय कितने तेजमय होते हैं! वे थोड़ा भी मान-भंग सहन नहीं कर सकते। जरा सोचो तो, यह नन्हा सा बालक है, तो भी उसकी सौतेली माता के कटु वचन उसके लिए असह्य हो गये। ॥ ४-८-२६ ॥

aho tejaH kSatriyANAM mAnabhaGgamamRSyatAm । bAlo'pyayaM hRdA dhatte yatsamAturasadvacaH ॥ 4-8-26 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनारद उवाच नाधुनाप्यवमानं ते सम्मानं वापि पुत्रक । लक्षयामः कुमारस्य सक्तस्य क्रीडनादिषु ॥ ४-८-२७ ॥
The great sage Nārada told Dhruva: My dear boy, you are only a little boy whose attachment is to sports and other frivolities. Why are you so affected by words insulting your honor? ॥ 4-8-27 ॥
english translation
महर्षि नारद ने ध्रुव से कहा : हे बालक, अभी तो तुम नन्हें बालक हो, जिसकी आसक्ति खेल इत्यादि में रहती है। तो फिर तुम अपने सम्मान के विपरीत अपमानजनक शब्दों से इतने प्रभावित क्यों हो? ॥ ४-८-२७ ॥

nArada uvAca nAdhunApyavamAnaM te sammAnaM vApi putraka । lakSayAmaH kumArasya saktasya krIDanAdiSu ॥ 4-8-27 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविकल्पे विद्यमानेऽपि न ह्यसन्तोषहेतवः । पुंसो मोहमृते भिन्ना यल्लोके निजकर्मभिः ॥ ४-८-२८ ॥
My dear Dhruva, if you feel that your sense of honor has been insulted, you still have no cause for dissatisfaction. This kind of dissatisfaction is another feature of the illusory energy; every living entity is controlled by his previous actions, and therefore there are different varieties of life for enjoying or suffering. ॥ 4-8-28 ॥

हे ध्रुव, यदि तुम समझते हो कि तुम्हारे आत्मसम्मान को ठेस पहुँची है, तो भी तुम्हें असंतुष्ट होने का कोई कारण नहीं है। इस प्रकार का असन्तोष माया का ही अन्य लक्षण है; प्रत्येक जीवात्मा अपने पूर्व कर्मों के अनुसार नियंत्रित होता है, अत: सुख तथा दुख भोगने के लिए नाना प्रकार के जीवन होते हैं। ॥ ४-८-२८ ॥

vikalpe vidyamAne'pi na hyasantoSahetavaH । puMso mohamRte bhinnA yalloke nijakarmabhiH ॥ 4-8-28 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरितुष्येत्ततस्तात तावन्मात्रेण पूरुषः । दैवोपसादितं यावद्वीक्ष्येश्वरगतिं बुधः ॥ ४-८-२९ ॥
The process of the Supreme Personality of Godhead is very wonderful. One who is intelligent should accept that process and be satisfied with whatever comes, favorable or unfavorable, by His supreme will. ॥ 4-8-29 ॥

भगवान् की गति बड़ी विचित्र है। बुद्धिमान मनुष्य को चाहिए कि वह इस गति को स्वीकार करे और अनुकूल या प्रतिकूल जो कुछ भी भगवान् की इच्छा से सम्मुख आए, उससे संतुष्ट रहे। ॥ ४-८-२९ ॥

parituSyettatastAta tAvanmAtreNa pUruSaH । daivopasAditaM yAvadvIkSyezvaragatiM budhaH ॥ 4-8-29 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ मात्रोपदिष्टेन योगेनावरुरुत्ससि । यत्प्रसादं स वै पुंसां दुराराध्यो मतो मम ॥ ४-८-३० ॥
Now you have decided to undertake the mystic process of meditation under the instruction of your mother, just to achieve the mercy of the Lord, but in my opinion such austerities are not possible for any ordinary man. It is very difficult to satisfy the Supreme Personality of Godhead. ॥ 4-8-30 ॥

अब तुमने अपनी माता के उपदेश से भगवान् की कृपा प्राप्त करने के लिए ध्यान की योग- विधि पालन करने का निश्चय किया है, किन्तु मेरे विचार से ऐसी तपस्या सामान्य व्यक्ति के लिए सम्भव नहीं है। भगवान् को प्रसन्न कर पाना अत्यन्त कठिन है। ॥ ४-८-३० ॥
