तथा मनुर्वो भगवान् पितामहो यमेकमत्या पुरुदक्षिणैर्मखैः । इष्ट्वाभिपेदे दुरवापमन्यतो भौमं सुखं दिव्यमथापवर्ग्यम् ।। ४-८-२१ ।।

sanskrit

Sunīti informed her son: Your grandfather Svāyambhuva Manu executed great sacrifices with distribution of charity, and thereby, with unflinching faith and devotion, he worshiped and satisfied the Supreme Personality of Godhead. By acting in that way, he achieved the greatest success in material happiness and afterwards achieved liberation, which is impossible to obtain by worshiping the demigods. ।। 4-8-21 ।।

english translation

सुनीति ने अपने पुत्र को बताया : तुम्हारे बाबा स्वायंभुव मनु ने दान-दक्षिणा के साथ बड़े बड़े यज्ञ सम्पन्न किये और एकनिष्ठ श्रद्धा तथा भक्ति से उन्होंने पूजा द्वारा भगवान् को प्रसन्न किया। इस प्रकार उन्होंने भौतिक सुख तथा बाद में मुक्ति प्राप्त करने में महान् सफलता पाई जिसे देवताओं को पूजकर प्राप्त कर पाना असंभव है। ।। ४-८-२१ ।।

तमेव वत्साश्रय भृत्यवत्सलं मुमुक्षुभिर्मृग्यपदाब्जपद्धतिम् । अनन्यभावे निजधर्मभाविते मनस्यवस्थाप्य भजस्व पूरुषम् ।। ४-८-२२ ।।

sanskrit

My dear boy, you also should take shelter of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is very kind to His devotees. Persons seeking liberation from the cycle of birth and death always take shelter of the lotus feet of the Lord in devotional service. Becoming purified by executing your allotted occupation, just situate the Supreme Personality of Godhead in your heart, and without deviating for a moment, engage always in His service. ।। 4-8-22 ।।

english translation

मेरे पुत्र, तुम्हें भी भगवान् की शरण ग्रहण करनी चाहिए, क्योंकि वे अपने भक्तों पर अत्यन्त दयालु हैं। जन्म-मरण के चक्र से मुक्ति चाहने वाले व्यक्ति सदैव भक्ति सहित भगवान् के चरणकमलों की शरण में जाते हैं। अपना निर्दिष्ट कार्य करके पवित्र होकर तुम अपने हृदय में भगवान् को स्थिर करो और एक पल भी विचलित हुए बिना उनकी सेवा में तन्मय रहो। ।। ४-८-२२ ।।

नान्यं ततः पद्मपलाशलोचनाद्दुःखच्छिदं ते मृगयामि कञ्चन । यो मृग्यते हस्तगृहीतपद्मया श्रियेतरैरङ्ग विमृग्यमाणया ।। ४-८-२३ ।।

My dear Dhruva, as far as I am concerned, I do not find anyone who can mitigate your distress but the Supreme Personality of Godhead, whose eyes are like lotus petals. Many demigods such as Lord Brahmā seek the pleasure of the goddess of fortune, but the goddess of fortune herself, with a lotus flower in her hand, is always ready to render service to the Supreme Lord. ।। 4-8-23 ।।

english translation

हे प्रिय ध्रुव, कमल के दलों जैसे नेत्रों वाले भगवान् के अतिरिक्त मुझे कोई ऐसा नहीं दिखता जो तुम्हारे दुखों को कम कर सके। ब्रह्मा जैसे अनेक देवता लक्ष्मी देवी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए लालायित रहते हैं, किन्तु लक्ष्मी जी स्वयं अपने हाथ में कमल पुष्प लेकर परमेश्वर की सेवा करने के लिए सदैव तत्पर रहती हैं। ।। ४-८-२३ ।।

मैत्रेय उवाच एवं सञ्जल्पितं मातुराकर्ण्यार्थागमं वचः । सन्नियम्यात्मनाऽऽत्मानं निश्चक्राम पितुः पुरात् ।। ४-८-२४ ।।

sanskrit

The great sage Maitreya continued: The instruction of Dhruva Mahārāja’s mother, Sunīti, was actually meant for fulfilling his desired objective. Therefore, after deliberate consideration and with intelligence and fixed determination, he left his father’s house. ।। 4-8-24 ।।

english translation

मैत्रेय मुनि ने आगे कहा : ध्रुव महाराज की माता सुनीति का उपदेश वस्तुत: उनके मनोवांछित लक्ष्य को पूरा करने के निमित्त था, अत: बुद्धि तथा दृढ़ संकल्प द्वारा चित्त का समाधान करके उन्होंने अपने पिता का घर त्याग दिया। ।। ४-८-२४ ।।

नारदस्तदुपाकर्ण्य ज्ञात्वा तस्य चिकीर्षितम् । स्पृष्ट्वा मूर्धन्यघघ्नेन पाणिना प्राह विस्मितः ।। ४-८-२५ ।।

The great sage Nārada overheard this news, and understanding all the activities of Dhruva Mahārāja, he was struck with wonder. He approached Dhruva, and touching the boy’s head with his all-virtuous hand, he spoke as follows. ।। 4-8-25 ।।

english translation

नारद मुनि ने यह समाचार सुना और ध्रुव महाराज के समस्त कार्यकलापों को जानकर वे चकित रह गये। वे ध्रुव के पास आये और उनके सिर को अपने पुण्यवर्धक हाथ से स्पर्श करते हुए इस प्रकार बोले। ।। ४-८-२५ ।।
