तथापरे सिद्धगणा महर्षिभिर्येवै समन्तादनु नीललोहितम् । नमस्कृतः प्राह शशाङ्कशेखरं कृतप्रणामं प्रहसन्निवात्मभूः ।। ४-६-४१ ।।

sanskrit

All the sages who were sitting with Lord Śiva, such as Nārada and others, also offered their respectful obeisances to Lord Brahmā. After being so worshiped, Lord Brahmā, smiling, began to speak to Lord Śiva. ।। 4-6-41 ।।

english translation

शिवजी के साथ जितने भी ऋषि, यथा नारद आदि, बैठे हुए थे उन्होंने भी ब्रह्मा को सादर नमस्कार किया। इस प्रकार पूजित होकर शिव से ब्रह्मा हँसते हुए कहने लगे। ।। ४-६-४१ ।।

ब्रह्मोवाच जाने त्वामीशं विश्वस्य जगतो योनिबीजयोः । शक्तेः शिवस्य च परं यत्तद्ब्रह्म निरन्तरम् ।। ४-६-४२ ।।

sanskrit

Lord Brahmā said: My dear Lord Śiva, I know that you are the controller of the entire material manifestation, the combination father and mother of the cosmic manifestation, and the Supreme Brahman beyond the cosmic manifestation as well. I know you in that way. ।। 4-6-42 ।।

english translation

ब्रह्मा ने कहा : हे शिव, मैं जानता हूँ कि आप सारे भौतिक जगत के नियन्ता, दृश्य जगत के माता-पिता और दृश्य जगत से भी परे परब्रह्म हैं। मैं आपको इसी रूप में जानता हूँ। ।। ४-६-४२ ।।

त्वमेव भगवन्नेतच्छिवशक्त्योः स्वरूपयोः । विश्वं सृजसि पास्यत्सि क्रीडन्नूर्णपटो यथा ।। ४-६-४३ ।।

sanskrit

My dear lord, you create this cosmic manifestation, maintain it, and annihilate it by expansion of your personality, exactly as a spider creates, maintains and winds up its web. ।। 4-6-43 ।।

english translation

हे भगवान्, आप अपने व्यक्तिगत विस्तार से इस दृश्य जगत की सृष्टि, पालन तथा संहार उसी प्रकार करते हैं जिस प्रकार मकड़ी अपना जाला बनाती है, बनाये रखती हैं और फिर अन्त कर देती है। ।। ४-६-४३ ।।

त्वमेव धर्मार्थदुघाभिपत्तये दक्षेण सूत्रेण ससर्जिथाध्वरम् । त्वयैव लोकेऽवसिताश्च सेतवो यान् ब्राह्मणाः श्रद्दधते धृतव्रताः ।। ४-६-४४ ।।

My dear lord, Your Lordship has introduced the system of sacrifices through the agency of Dakṣa, and thus one may derive the benefits of religious activities and economic development. Under your regulative principles, the institution of the four varṇās and āśramas is respected. The brāhmaṇas therefore vow to follow this system strictly. ।। 4-6-44 ।।

english translation

हे भगवान्, आपने दक्ष को माध्यम बनाकर यज्ञ-प्रथा चलाई है, जिससे मनुष्य धार्मिक कृत्य तथा आर्थिक विकास का लाभ उठा सकता है। आपके ही नियामक विधानों से चारों वर्णों तथा आश्रमों को सम्मानित किया जाता है। अत: ब्राह्मण इस प्रथा का दृढ़तापूर्वक पालन करने का व्रत लेते हैं। ।। ४-६-४४ ।।

tvameva dharmArthadughAbhipattaye dakSeNa sUtreNa sasarjithAdhvaram | tvayaiva loke'vasitAzca setavo yAn brAhmaNAH zraddadhate dhRtavratAH || 4-6-44 ||

त्वं कर्मणां मङ्गलमङ्गलानां कर्तुः स्म लोकं तनुषे स्वः परं वा । अमङ्गलानां च तमिस्रमुल्बणं विपर्ययः केन तदेव कस्यचित् ।। ४-६-४५ ।।

sanskrit

O most auspicious lord, you have ordained the heavenly planets, the spiritual Vaikuṇṭha planets and the impersonal Brahman sphere as the respective destinations of the performers of auspicious activities. Similarly, for others, who are miscreants, you have destined different kinds of hells which are horrible and ghastly. Yet sometimes it is found that their destinations are just the opposite. It is very difficult to ascertain the cause of this. ।। 4-6-45 ।।

english translation

हे परम मंगलमय भगवान्, आपने स्वर्गलोक, वैकुण्ठलोक तथा निर्गुण ब्रह्मलोक को शुभ कर्म करने वालों का गन्तव्य निर्दिष्ट किया है। इसी प्रकार जो दुराचारी हैं उनके लिए अत्यन्त घोर नरकों की सृष्टि की है। तो भी कभी-कभी ये गन्तव्य उलट जाते हैं। इसका कारण तय कर पाना अत्यन्त कठिन है। ।। ४-६-४५ ।।

tvaM karmaNAM maGgalamaGgalAnAM kartuH sma lokaM tanuSe svaH paraM vA | amaGgalAnAM ca tamisramulbaNaM viparyayaH kena tadeva kasyacit || 4-6-45 ||
