पूष्णश्चापातयद्दन्तान् कालिङ्गस्य यथा बलः । शप्यमाने गरिमणि योऽहसद्दर्शयन् दतः ॥ ४-५-२१ ॥

Just as Baladeva knocked out the teeth of Dantavakra, the King of Kaliṅga, during the gambling match at the marriage ceremony of Aniruddha, Vīrabhadra knocked out the teeth of both Dakṣa, who had shown them while cursing Lord Śiva, and Pūṣā, who by smiling sympathetically had also shown his teeth. ॥ 4-5-21 ॥

जिस प्रकार बलदेव ने अनिरुद्ध के विवाहोत्सव में द्यूतक्रीड़ा के समय कलिंगराज दंतवक्र के दाँत निकाल लिये थे, उसी प्रकार से वीरभद्र ने दक्ष तथा पूषा दोनों के दाँत उखाड़ लिये, क्योंकि दक्षने शिव को शाप दिये जाते समय दाँत दिखाये थे और पूषा ने भी सहमति स्वरूप हँसते हुए दाँत दिखाए थे। ॥ ४-५-२१ ॥

आक्रम्योरसि दक्षस्य शितधारेण हेतिना । छिन्दन्नपि तदुद्धर्तुं नाशक्नोत्त्र्यम्बकस्तदा ॥ ४-५-२२ ॥

Then Vīrabhadra, the giantlike personality, sat on the chest of Dakṣa and tried to separate his head from his body with sharp weapons, but was unsuccessful. ॥ 4-5-22 ॥

english translation

तब वह दैत्य सदृश पुरुष वीरभद्र दक्ष की छाती पर चढ़ बैठा और तीक्ष्ण हथियार से उसके शरीर से सिर काटकर अलग करने का प्रयत्न करने लगा, किन्तु सफल नहीं हुआ। ॥ ४-५-२२ ॥

शस्त्रैरस्त्रान्वितैरेवमनिर्भिन्नत्वचं हरः । विस्मयं परमापन्नो दध्यौ पशुपतिश्चिरम् ॥ ४-५-२३ ॥

He tried to cut the head of Dakṣa with hymns as well as weapons, but still it was hard to cut even the surface of the skin of Dakṣa’s head. Thus Vīrabhadra was exceedingly bewildered. ॥ 4-5-23 ॥

उसने मंत्रों तथा हथियारों के बल पर दक्ष का सिर काटना चाहा, किन्तु दक्ष के सिर की चमड़ी तक को काट पाना दूभर हो रहा था। इस प्रकार वीरभद्र अत्यधिक चकित हुआ। ॥ ४-५-२३ ॥

दृष्ट्वा संज्ञपनं योगं पशूनां स पतिर्मखे । यजमानपशोः कस्य कायात्तेनाहरच्छिरः ॥ ४-५-२४ ।‌।

Then Vīrabhadra saw the wooden device in the sacrificial arena by which the animals were to have been killed. He took the opportunity of this facility to behead Dakṣa. ॥ 4-5-24 ॥

तब वीरभद्र ने यज्ञशाला में लकड़ी की बनी युक्ति (करनी) देखी जिससे पशुओं का वध किया जाता था। उसने दक्ष का सिर काटने में इसका लाभ उठाया। ॥ ४-५-२४ ॥

साधुवादस्तदा तेषां कर्म तत्तस्य पश्यताम् । भूतप्रेतपिशाचानामन्येषां तद्विपर्ययः ॥ ४-५-२५ ।‌।

Upon seeing the action of Vīrabhadra, the party of Lord Śiva was pleased and cried out joyfully, and all the bhūtas, ghosts and demons that had come made a tumultuous sound. On the other hand, the brāhmaṇas in charge of the sacrifice cried out in grief at the death of Dakṣa. ॥ 4-5-25 ॥

वीरभद्र के कार्य से शिवजी के दल को प्रसन्नता हुई और वह वाह-वाह कर उठा तथा जितने भी भूत, प्रेत तथा असुर वहाँ आये थे, उन सबों ने भयानक किलकारियाँ भरी। दूसरी ओर, यज्ञ का भार सँभालने वाले ब्राह्मण दक्ष की मृत्यु के कारण शोक से चीत्कार करने लगे। ॥ ४-५-२५ ॥
