एवं पराभिध्यानेन कर्तृत्वं प्रकृतेः पुमान् । कर्मसु क्रियमाणेषु गुणैरात्मनि मन्यते ।। ३-२६-६ ।।

sanskrit

Because of his forgetfulness, the transcendental living entity accepts the influence of material energy as his field of activities, and thus actuated, he wrongly applies the activities to himself. ।। 3-26-6 ।।

english translation

अपनी विस्मृति के कारण दिव्य जीवात्मा प्रकृति के प्रभाव को अपना कर्मक्षेत्र मान बैठता है और इस प्रकार प्रेरित होकर त्रुटिवश अपने को कर्मों का कर्ता मानता है। ।। ३-२६-६ ।।

तदस्य संसृतिर्बन्धः पारतन्त्र्यं च तत्कृतम् । भवत्यकर्तुरीशस्य साक्षिणो निर्वृतात्मनः ।। ३-२६-७ ।‌।

sanskrit

Material consciousness is the cause of one’s conditional life, in which conditions are enforced upon the living entity by the material energy. Although the spirit soul does not do anything and is transcendental to such activities, he is thus affected by conditional life. ।। 3-26-7 ।।

english translation

भौतिक चेतना ही मनुष्य के बद्धजीवन का कारण है, जिसमें परिस्थितियाँ जीव पर हाबी हो जाती हैं। यद्यपि आत्मा कुछ भी नहीं करता और ऐसे कर्मों से परे रहता है, किन्तु इस प्रकार वह बद्धजीवन से प्रभावित होता है। ।। ३-२६-७ ।।

कार्यकारणकर्तृत्वे कारणं प्रकृतिं विदुः । भोक्तृत्वे सुखदुःखानां पुरुषं प्रकृतेः परम् ।। ३-२६-८ ।।

sanskrit

The cause of the conditioned soul’s material body and senses, and the senses’ presiding deities, the demigods, is the material nature. This is understood by learned men. The feelings of happiness and distress of the soul, who is transcendental by nature, are caused by the spirit soul himself. ।। 3-26-8 ।।

english translation

बद्धजीव के शरीर, इन्द्रियों तथा इन्द्रियों के अधिष्ठता देवों का कारण भौतिक प्रकृति है। इसे विद्वान मनुष्य जानते हैं। स्वभाव से दिव्य, ऐसे आत्मा के सुख तथा दुख जैसे अनुभव स्वयं आत्मा द्वारा उत्पन्न होते हैं। ।। ३-२६-८ ।।

Devahūti said: O Supreme Personality of Godhead, kindly explain the characteristics of the Supreme Person and His energies, for both of these are the causes of this manifest and unmanifest creation. ।। 3-26-9 ।।

english translation

देवहूति ने कहा : हे भगवान्, आप परम पुरुष तथा उनकी शक्तियों के लक्षण कहें, क्योंकि ये दोनों इस प्रकट तथा अप्रकट सृष्टि के कारण हैं। ।। ३-२६-९ ।।

श्रीभगवानुवाच यत्तत्त्रिगुणमव्यक्तं नित्यं सदसदात्मकम् । प्रधानं प्रकृतिं प्राहुरविशेषं विशेषवत् ।। ३-२६-१० ।।

sanskrit

: The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: The unmanifested eternal combination of the three modes is the cause of the manifest state and is called pradhāna. It is called prakṛti when in the manifested stage of existence. ।। 3-26-10 ।।

english translation

भगवान् ने कहा : तीनों गुणों का अप्रकट शाश्वत संयोग ही प्रकट अवस्था का कारण है और प्रधान कहलाता है। जब यह प्रकट अवस्था में होता है, तो इसे प्रकृति कहते हैं। ।। ३-२६-१० ।।
