रजःप्रधानान् महतस्त्रिलिङ्गो दैवचोदितात् । जातः ससर्ज भूतादिर्वियदादीनि पञ्चशः ॥ ३-२०-१३ ॥

As impelled by the destiny of the jīva, the false ego, which is of three kinds, evolved from the mahat-tattva, in which the element of rajas predominates. From the ego, in turn, evolved many groups of five principles. ॥ 3-20-13 ॥

english translation

जीव के भाग्य (दैव) की प्रेरणा से रजोगुण प्रधान महत्-तत्त्व से तीन प्रकार का अहंकार उत्पन्न हुआ। फिर अंहकार से पाँच-पाँच तत्त्वों के अनेक समूह उत्पन्न हुए। ॥ ३-२०-१३ ॥
