स तुद्यमानोऽरिदुरुक्ततोमरैर्दंष्ट्राग्रगां गामुपलक्ष्य भीताम् । तोदं मृषन् निरगादम्बुमध्याद्ग्राहाहतः स करेणुर्यथेभः ।। ३-१८-६ ।।

sanskrit

Although the Lord was pained by the shaftlike abusive words of the demon, He bore the pain. But seeing that the earth on the ends of His tusks was frightened, He rose out of the water just as an elephant emerges with its female companion when assailed by an alligator. ।। 3-18-6 ।।

english translation

यद्यपि भगवान् असुर के तीर सदृश बेधने वाले दुर्वचनों से अत्यन्त पीडि़त हुए थे, किन्तु उन्होंने इस पीड़ा को सह लिया। वे अपनी दाढ़ों के अग्रभाग पर स्थित पृथ्वी को भयभीत देखकर जल में से निकलकर उसी प्रकार बाहर आ गये जिस प्रकार घडिय़ाल द्वारा आक्रमण किये जाने पर हाथी अपनी सहचरी हथिनी के साथ बाहर आ जाता है। ।। ३-१८-६ ।।
