अथोपस्पृश्य सलिलं प्राणानायम्य वाग्यतः । ध्यायञ्जजाप विरजं ब्रह्मज्योतिः सनातनम् ॥ ३-१४-३१ ॥
Thereafter the brāhmaṇa took his bath in the water and controlled his speech by practicing trance, meditating on the eternal effulgence and chanting the holy Gāyatrī hymns within his mouth. ॥ 3-14-31 ॥

तत्पश्चात् उस ब्राह्मण ने जल में स्नान किया और समाधि में नित्य तेज का ध्यान करते हुए तथा मुख के भीतर पवित्र गायत्री मंत्र का जप करते हुए अपनी वाणी को वश में किया। ॥ ३-१४-३१ ॥

दितिस्तु व्रीडिता तेन कर्मावद्येन भारत । उपसङ्गम्य विप्रर्षिमधोमुख्यभ्यभाषत ॥ ३-१४-३२ ॥
O son of the Bharata family, Diti, after this, went nearer to her husband, her face lowered because of her faulty action. She spoke as follows. ॥ 3-14-32 ॥

हे भारत, इसके बाद दिति अपने पति के और निकट गई। उसका मुख दोषपूर्ण कृत्य के कारण झुका हुआ था। उसने इस प्रकार कहा। ॥ ३-१४-३२ ॥

दितिरुवाच मा मे गर्भमिमं ब्रह्मन् भूतानामृषभोऽवधीत् । रुद्रः पतिर्हि भूतानां यस्याकरवमंहसम् ॥ ३-१४-३३ ॥
The beautiful Diti said: My dear brāhmaṇa, kindly see that my embryo is not killed by Lord Śiva, the lord of all living entities, because of the great offense I have committed against him. ॥ 3-14-33 ॥

सुन्दरी दिति ने कहा : हे ब्राह्मण, कृपया ध्यान रखें कि समस्त जीवों के स्वामी भगवान् शिव द्वारा मेरा यह गर्भ नष्ट न किया जाय, क्योंकि मैंने उनके प्रति महान् अपराध किया है। ॥ ३-१४-३३ ॥

नमो रुद्राय महते देवायोग्राय मीढुषे । शिवाय न्यस्तदण्डाय धृतदण्डाय मन्यवे ॥ ३-१४-३४ ॥
Let me offer my obeisances unto the angry Lord Śiva, who is simultaneously the very ferocious great demigod and the fulfiller of all material desires. He is all-auspicious and forgiving, but his anger can immediately move him to chastise. ॥ 3-14-34 ॥

मैं उन क्रुद्ध शिवजी को नमस्कार करती हूँ जो एक ही साथ अत्यन्त उग्र महादेव तथा समस्त इच्छाओं को पूरा करने वाले हैं। वे सर्वकल्याणप्रद तथा क्षमाशील हैं, किन्तु उनका क्रोध उन्हें तुरन्त ही दण्ड देने के लिए चलायमान कर सकता है। ॥ ३-१४-३४ ॥

स नः प्रसीदतां भामो भगवानुर्वनुग्रहः । व्याधस्याप्यनुकम्प्यानां स्त्रीणां देवः सतीपतिः ॥ ३-१४-३५ ॥
Let him be pleased with us, since he is my brother-in-law, the husband of my sister Satī. He is also the worshipable lord of all women. He is the personality of all opulences and can show mercy towards women, who are excused even by the uncivilized hunters. ॥ 3-14-35 ॥

वे हम पर प्रसन्न हों, क्योंकि वे मेरी बहिन सती के पति, मेरे बहनोई हैं। वे समस्त स्त्रियों के आराध्य देव भी हैं। वे समस्त ऐश्वर्यों के व्यक्ति हैं और उन स्त्रियों के प्रति कृपा प्रदर्शित कर सकते हैं, जिन्हें असभ्य शिकारी भी क्षमा कर देते हैं। ॥ ३-१४-३५ ॥
