जायाऽऽत्मजार्थपशुभृत्यगृहाप्तवर्गान् पुष्णाति यत्प्रियचिकीर्षया वितन्वन् । स्वान्ते सकृच्छ्रमवरुद्धधनः स देहः सृष्ट्वास्य बीजमवसीदति वृक्षधर्मः ।। ११-९-२६ ।।

sanskrit

A man attached to the body accumulates money with great struggle to expand and protect the position of his wife, children, property, domestic animals, servants, homes, relatives, friends, and so on. He does all this for the gratification of his own body. As a tree before dying produces the seed of a future tree, the dying body manifests the seed of one’s next material body in the form of one’s accumulated karma. Thus assuring the continuation of material existence, the material body sinks down and dies. ।। 11-9-26 ।।

english translation

शरीर से आसक्त व्यक्ति अपनी पत्नी, बच्चों, संपत्ति, घरेलू पशुओं, नौकरों, घरों, रिश्तेदारों, दोस्तों आदि की स्थिति का विस्तार और रक्षा करने के लिए बड़े संघर्ष से धन जमा करता है। वह यह सब अपने शरीर की संतुष्टि के लिए करता है। जिस तरह एक पेड़ मरने से पहले भविष्य के पेड़ का बीज पैदा करता है, उसी तरह मरने वाला शरीर उसके संचित कर्म के रूप में उसके अगले भौतिक शरीर का बीज प्रकट करता है। इस प्रकार भौतिक अस्तित्व की निरंतरता सुनिश्चित करते हुए, भौतिक शरीर नीचे गिर जाता है और मर जाता है। ।। ११-९-२६ ।।

जिह्वैकतोऽमुमपकर्षति कर्हि तर्षा शिश्नोऽन्यतस्त्वगुदरं श्रवणं कुतश्चित् । घ्राणोऽन्यतश्चपलदृक् क्व च कर्मशक्तिः बह्व्यः सपत्न्य इव गेहपतिं लुनन्ति ।। ११-९-२७ ।।

A man who has many wives is constantly harassed by them. He is responsible for their maintenance, and thus all the ladies constantly pull him in different directions, each struggling for her self-interest. Similarly, the material senses harass the conditioned soul, pulling him in many different directions at once. On one side the tongue is pulling him to arrange tasty food; then thirst drags him to get a suitable drink. Simultaneously the sex organs clamor for satisfaction, and the sense of touch demands soft, sensuous objects. The belly harasses him until it is filled, the ears demand to hear pleasing sounds, the sense of smell hankers for pleasant aromas, and the fickle eyes clamor for pleasing sights. Thus the senses, organs and limbs, all desiring satisfaction, pull the living entity in many directions. ।। 11-9-27 ।।

जिस व्यक्ति की कई पत्नियाँ होती हैं, वह लगातार उनसे परेशान रहता है। वह उनके भरण-पोषण के लिए ज़िम्मेदार है, और इस प्रकार सभी महिलाएँ उसे लगातार अलग-अलग दिशाओं में खींचती हैं, प्रत्येक अपने स्वार्थ के लिए संघर्ष करती है। इसी प्रकार, भौतिक इंद्रियाँ बद्ध आत्मा को परेशान करती हैं, उसे एक साथ कई अलग-अलग दिशाओं में खींचती हैं। एक तरफ जीभ उसे स्वादिष्ट भोजन का प्रबंध करने के लिए खींच रही है; तब प्यास उसे उपयुक्त पेय लेने के लिए खींचती है। इसके साथ ही यौन अंग संतुष्टि के लिए छटपटाते हैं, और स्पर्श की भावना कोमल, कामुक वस्तुओं की मांग करती है। पेट उसे तब तक परेशान करता है जब तक वह भर न जाए, कान सुखद ध्वनि सुनने की मांग करते हैं, गंध की इंद्रिय सुखद सुगंध के लिए लालायित रहती है, और चंचल आंखें मनभावन दृश्यों के लिए छटपटाती रहती हैं। इस प्रकार संतुष्टि चाहने वाली इंद्रियाँ, अंग और अंग, जीव को कई दिशाओं में खींचते हैं। ।। ११-९-२७ ।।

सृष्ट्वा पुराणि विविधान्यजयाऽऽत्मशक्त्या वृक्षान् सरीसृपपशून् खगदंशमत्स्यान् । तैस्तैरतुष्टहृदयः पुरुषं विधाय ब्रह्मावलोकधिषणं मुदमाप देवः ।। ११-९-२८ ।।

The Supreme Personality of Godhead, expanding His own potency, māyā-śakti, created innumerable species of life to house the conditioned souls. Yet by creating the forms of trees, reptiles, animals, birds, snakes and so on, the Lord was not satisfied within His heart. Then He created human life, which offers the conditioned soul sufficient intelligence to perceive the Absolute Truth, and became pleased. ।। 11-9-28 ।।

english translation

भगवान के सर्वोच्च व्यक्तित्व ने, अपनी शक्ति, माया-शक्ति का विस्तार करते हुए, बद्ध आत्माओं को आश्रय देने के लिए जीवन की असंख्य प्रजातियों का निर्माण किया। फिर भी वृक्षों, सरीसृपों, जानवरों, पक्षियों, साँपों आदि की आकृतियाँ बनाकर, भगवान अपने हृदय से संतुष्ट नहीं हुए। फिर उन्होंने मानव जीवन बनाया, जो बद्ध आत्मा को पूर्ण सत्य को समझने के लिए पर्याप्त बुद्धि प्रदान करता है, और प्रसन्न हो गए। ।। ११-९-२८ ।।

लब्ध्वा सुदुर्लभमिदं बहुसम्भवान्ते मानुष्यमर्थदमनित्यमपीह धीरः । तूर्णं यतेत न पतेदनुमृत्यु याव- न्निःश्रेयसाय विषयः खलु सर्वतः स्यात् ।। ११-९-२९ ।।

After many, many births and deaths one achieves the rare human form of life, which, although temporary, affords one the opportunity to attain the highest perfection. Thus a sober human being should quickly endeavor for the ultimate perfection of life as long as his body, which is always subject to death, has not fallen down and died. After all, sense gratification is available even in the most abominable species of life, whereas Kṛṣṇa consciousness is possible only for a human being. ।। 11-9-29 ।।

english translation

कई जन्मों और मृत्यु के बाद व्यक्ति दुर्लभ मानव जीवन प्राप्त करता है, जो अस्थायी होते हुए भी सर्वोच्च पूर्णता प्राप्त करने का अवसर प्रदान करता है। इस प्रकार एक शांत मनुष्य को जीवन की चरम पूर्णता के लिए शीघ्रता से प्रयास करना चाहिए जब तक कि उसका शरीर, जो हमेशा मृत्यु के अधीन है, गिरकर मर न जाए। आख़िरकार, इन्द्रियतृप्ति जीवन की सबसे घृणित योनि में भी उपलब्ध है, जबकि कृष्ण चेतना केवल मनुष्य के लिए ही संभव है। ।। ११-९-२९ ।।

एवं सञ्जातवैराग्यो विज्ञानालोक आत्मनि । विचरामि महीमेतां मुक्तसङ्गोऽनहङ्कृतिः ।। ११-९-३० ।।

Having learned from my spiritual masters, I remain situated in realization of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and, fully renounced and enlightened by realized spiritual knowledge, wander the earth without attachment or false ego. ।। 11-9-30 ।।

english translation

अपने आध्यात्मिक गुरुओं से शिक्षा प्राप्त करने के बाद, मैं भगवान के परम व्यक्तित्व की प्राप्ति में स्थित रहता हूँ और, पूरी तरह से त्याग दिया हुआ और अनुभूत आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान से प्रबुद्ध होकर, आसक्ति या झूठे अहंकार के बिना पृथ्वी पर विचरण करता हूँ। ।। ११-९-३० ।।
