तावज्जितेन्द्रियो न स्याद्विजितान्येन्द्रियः पुमान् । न जयेद्रसनं यावज्जितं सर्वं जिते रसे ॥ ११-८-२१ ॥
Although one may conquer all of the other senses, as long as the tongue is not conquered it cannot be said that one has controlled his senses. However, if one is able to control the tongue, then one is understood to be in full control of all the senses. ॥ 11-8-21 ॥

O son of kings, previously in the city of Videha there dwelled a prostitute named Piṅgalā. Now please hear what I have learned from that lady. ॥ 11-8-22 ॥

हे राजाओं के पुत्र, पहले विदेह नगर में पिंगल नाम की एक वेश्या रहती थी। अब कृपया सुनें कि मैंने उस महिला से क्या सीखा है। ॥ ११-८-२२ ॥

Once that prostitute, desiring to bring a lover into her house, stood outside in the doorway at night showing her beautiful form. ॥ 11-8-23 ॥

एक बार वह वेश्या किसी प्रेमी को अपने घर में लाने की इच्छा से रात्रि के समय बाहर द्वार पर अपना सुंदर रूप दिखाकर खड़ी हो गयी। ॥ ११-८-२३ ॥

मार्ग आगच्छतो वीक्ष्य पुरुषान् पुरुषर्षभ । तान् शुल्कदान् वित्तवतः कान्तान् मेनेऽर्थकामुका ॥ ११-८-२४ ॥
O best among men, this prostitute was very anxious to get money, and as she stood on the street at night she studied all the men who were passing by, thinking, “Oh, this one surely has money. I know he can pay the price, and I am sure he would enjoy my company very much.” Thus she thought about all the men on the street. ॥ 11-8-24 ॥

हे नरश्रेष्ठ, यह वेश्या धन पाने के लिए बहुत उत्सुक थी, और जब वह रात में सड़क पर खड़ी थी, तो उसने आने-जाने वाले सभी पुरुषों का अध्ययन किया और सोचा, "ओह, इसके पास निश्चित रूप से धन है। मैं जानता हूं कि वह इसकी कीमत चुका सकता है और मुझे यकीन है कि वह मेरी कंपनी का भरपूर आनंद उठाएगा।'' इस प्रकार उसने सड़क पर सभी पुरुषों के बारे में सोचा। ॥ ११-८-२४ ॥

आगतेष्वपयातेषु सा सङ्केतोपजीविनी । अप्यन्यो वित्तवान् कोऽपि मामुपैष्यति भूरिदः ॥ ११-८-२५ ॥
As the prostitute Piṅgalā stood in the doorway, many men came and went, walking by her house. Her only means of sustenance was prostitution, and therefore she anxiously thought, “Maybe this one who is coming now is very rich… Oh, he is not stopping, but I am sure someone else will come. Surely this man who is coming now will want to pay me for my love, and he will probably give lots of money. ॥ 11-8-25 ॥

जब वेश्या पिंगला द्वार पर खड़ी थी, बहुत से पुरुष उसके घर के पास से आते-जाते थे। उसकी आजीविका का एकमात्र साधन वेश्यावृत्ति थी, और इसलिए उसने उत्सुकता से सोचा, "शायद यह जो अब आ रहा है वह बहुत अमीर है . ओह, वह नहीं रुक रहा है, लेकिन मुझे यकीन है कि कोई और आएगा। निश्चय ही यह आदमी जो अभी आ रहा है, मुझे मेरे प्यार का बदला चुकाना चाहेगा, और शायद बहुत सारा पैसा भी देगा। ॥ ११-८-२५ ॥
