यदा आशिष आशास्य मां भजेत स्वकर्मभिः । तं रजःप्रकृतिं विद्याद्धिंसामाशास्य तामसम् ॥ ११-२५-११ ॥
When a person worships Me by his prescribed duties with the hope of gaining material benefit, his nature should be understood to be in passion, and one who worships Me with the desire to commit violence against others is in ignorance. ॥ 11-25-11 ॥

जब कोई व्यक्ति भौतिक लाभ की आशा से अपने निर्धारित कर्तव्यों द्वारा मेरी पूजा करता है, तो उसका स्वभाव रजोगुणी समझना चाहिए और जो दूसरों के प्रति हिंसा करने की इच्छा से मेरी पूजा करता है, वह अज्ञान में है। ॥ ११-२५-११ ॥

सत्त्वं रजस्तम इति गुणा जीवस्य नैव मे । चित्तजा यैस्तु भूतानां सज्जमानो निबध्यते ॥ ११-२५-१२ ॥
The three modes of material nature — goodness, passion and ignorance — influence the living entity but not Me. Manifesting within his mind, they induce the living entity to become attached to material bodies and other created objects. In this way the living entity is bound up. ॥ 11-25-12 ॥

भौतिक प्रकृति के तीन गुण - सतोगुण, रजोगुण और अज्ञान - जीव को प्रभावित करते हैं, लेकिन मुझे नहीं। उसके मन में प्रकट होकर, वे जीव को भौतिक शरीरों और अन्य निर्मित वस्तुओं से जुड़ने के लिए प्रेरित करते हैं। इस प्रकार जीव बंधा हुआ है। ॥ ११-२५-१२ ॥

यदेतरौ जयेत्सत्त्वं भास्वरं विशदं शिवम् । तदा सुखेन युज्येत धर्मज्ञानादिभिः पुमान् ॥ ११-२५-१३ ॥
When the mode of goodness, which is luminous, pure and auspicious, predominates over passion and ignorance, a man becomes endowed with happiness, virtue, knowledge and other good qualities. ॥ 11-25-13 ॥

जब सतोगुण, जो उज्ज्वल, शुद्ध और शुभ है, रजोगुण और अज्ञान पर हावी हो जाता है, तो मनुष्य खुशी, गुण, ज्ञान और अन्य अच्छे गुणों से संपन्न हो जाता है। ॥ ११-२५-१३ ॥

यदा जयेत्तमः सत्त्वं रजः सङ्गं भिदा चलम् । तदा दुःखेन युज्येत कर्मणा यशसा श्रिया ॥ ११-२५-१४ ॥
When the mode of passion, which causes attachment, separatism and activity, conquers ignorance and goodness, a man begins to work hard to acquire prestige and fortune. Thus in the mode of passion he experiences anxiety and struggle. ॥ 11-25-14 ॥

जब रजोगुण, जो आसक्ति, अलगाव और सक्रियता का कारण बनता है, अज्ञानता और अच्छाई पर विजय प्राप्त कर लेता है, तो मनुष्य प्रतिष्ठा और भाग्य प्राप्त करने के लिए कड़ी मेहनत करना शुरू कर देता है। इस प्रकार रजोगुण में वह चिंता और संघर्ष का अनुभव करता है। ॥ ११-२५-१४ ॥

यदा जयेद्रजः सत्त्वं तमो मूढं लयं जडम् । युज्येत शोकमोहाभ्यां निद्रया हिंसयाऽऽशया ॥ ११-२५-१५ ॥
When the mode of ignorance conquers passion and goodness, it covers one’s consciousness and makes one foolish and dull. Falling into lamentation and illusion, a person in the mode of ignorance sleeps excessively, indulges in false hopes, and displays violence toward others. ॥ 11-25-15 ॥

जब अज्ञानता का गुण रजोगुण और अच्छाई पर विजय प्राप्त कर लेता है, तो यह व्यक्ति की चेतना को ढक लेता है और उसे मूर्ख और सुस्त बना देता है। शोक और भ्रम में पड़कर, तमोगुणी व्यक्ति अत्यधिक सोता है, झूठी आशाओं में लिप्त रहता है और दूसरों के प्रति हिंसा प्रदर्शित करता है। ॥ ११-२५-१५ ॥
