एवं स भौतिकं दुःखं दैविकं दैहिकं च यत् । भोक्तव्यमात्मनो दिष्टं प्राप्तं प्राप्तमबुध्यत ।। ११-२३-४१ ।।

sanskrit

The brāhmaṇa understood that all his suffering — from other living beings, from the higher forces of nature and from his own body — was unavoidable, being allotted to him by providence. ।। 11-23-41 ।।

english translation

ब्राह्मण समझ गया कि उसकी सारी पीड़ा - अन्य जीवित प्राणियों से, प्रकृति की उच्च शक्तियों से और अपने शरीर से - अपरिहार्य थी, जो उसे विधान द्वारा दी गई थी। ।। ११-२३-४१ ।।

परिभूत इमां गाथामगायत नराधमैः । पातयद्भिः स्वधर्मस्थो धृतिमास्थाय सात्त्विकीम् ।। ११-२३-४२ ।।

sanskrit

Even while being insulted by these low-class men who were trying to effect his downfall, he remained steady in his spiritual duties. Fixing his resolution in the mode of goodness, he began to chant the following song. ।। 11-23-42 ।।

english translation

इन निम्न-श्रेणी के लोगों द्वारा अपमानित होने पर भी, जो उनके पतन को प्रभावित करने की कोशिश कर रहे थे, वह अपने आध्यात्मिक कर्तव्यों में स्थिर रहे। अपने संकल्प को सतोगुण में स्थिर करके, उन्होंने निम्नलिखित गीत का जाप करना शुरू किया। ।। ११-२३-४२ ।।

द्विज उवाच नायं जनो मे सुखदुःख हेतुः न देवताऽऽत्मा ग्रहकर्मकालाः । मनः परं कारणमामनन्ति संसारचक्रं परिवर्तयेद्यत् ।। ११-२३-४३ ।।

sanskrit

The brāhmaṇa said: These people are not the cause of my happiness and distress. Neither are the demigods, my own body, the planets, my past work, or time. Rather, it is the mind alone that causes happiness and distress and perpetuates the rotation of material life. ।। 11-23-43 ।।

english translation

ब्राह्मण ने कहा: ये लोग मेरे सुख और दुःख का कारण नहीं हैं। न ही देवता, मेरा अपना शरीर, ग्रह, मेरा पिछला कार्य या समय। बल्कि, यह मन ही है जो सुख और कष्ट का कारण बनता है और भौतिक जीवन के चक्र को कायम रखता है। ।। ११-२३-४३ ।।

मनो गुणान् वै सृजते बलीयस्ततश्च कर्माणि विलक्षणानि । शुक्लानि कृष्णान्यथ लोहितानि तेभ्यः सवर्णाः सृतयो भवन्ति ।। ११-२३-४४ ।।

The powerful mind actuates the functions of the material modes, from which evolve the different kinds of material activities in the modes of goodness, ignorance and passion. From the activities in each of these modes develop the corresponding statuses of life. ।। 11-23-44 ।।

english translation

शक्तिशाली मन भौतिक गुणों के कार्यों को क्रियान्वित करता है, जिससे सतोगुण, अज्ञान और रजोगुण में विभिन्न प्रकार की भौतिक गतिविधियाँ विकसित होती हैं। इनमें से प्रत्येक मोड की गतिविधियों से जीवन की संबंधित स्थितियाँ विकसित होती हैं। ।। ११-२३-४४ ।।

अनीह आत्मा मनसा समीहता हिरण्मयो मत्सख उद्विचष्टे । मनः स्वलिङ्गं परिगृह्य कामान् जुषन् निबद्धो गुणसङ्गतोऽसौ ।। ११-२३-४५ ।।

Although present along with the struggling mind within the material body, the Supersoul is not endeavoring, because He is already endowed with transcendental enlightenment. Acting as my friend, He simply witnesses from His transcendental position. I, the infinitesimal spirit soul, on the other hand, have embraced this mind, which is the mirror reflecting the image of the material world. Thus I have become engaged in enjoying objects of desire and am entangled due to contact with the modes of nature. ।। 11-23-45 ।।

english translation

भौतिक शरीर के भीतर संघर्षरत मन के साथ मौजूद होते हुए भी, परमात्मा प्रयास नहीं कर रहा है, क्योंकि वह पहले से ही दिव्य ज्ञान से संपन्न है। मेरे मित्र के रूप में कार्य करते हुए, वह बस अपनी दिव्य स्थिति से गवाही देते हैं। दूसरी ओर, मैं, अनंत सूक्ष्म आत्मा, ने इस मन को गले लगा लिया है, जो भौतिक संसार की छवि को प्रतिबिंबित करने वाला दर्पण है। इस प्रकार मैं कामना की वस्तुओं का आनंद लेने में व्यस्त हो गया हूं और प्रकृति के गुणों के संपर्क के कारण फंस गया हूं। ।। ११-२३-४५ ।।
