शब्दः स्पर्शो रसो गन्धो रूपं चेत्यर्थजातयः । गत्युक्त्युत्सर्गशिल्पानि कर्मायतनसिद्धयः ।। ११-२२-१६ ।।

sanskrit

Sound, touch, taste, smell and form are the objects of the knowledge-acquiring senses, and movement, speech, excretion and manufacture are functions of the working senses. ।। 11-22-16 ।।

english translation

शब्द, स्पर्श, स्वाद, गंध और रूप ज्ञान प्राप्त करने वाली इंद्रियों के विषय हैं, और गति, भाषण, उत्सर्जन और निर्माण कार्य इंद्रियों के कार्य हैं। ।। ११-२२-१६ ।।

सर्गादौ प्रकृतिर्ह्यस्य कार्यकारणरूपिणी । सत्त्वादिभिर्गुणैर्धत्ते पुरुषोऽव्यक्त ईक्षते ।। ११-२२-१७ ।।

sanskrit

In the beginning of creation nature assumes, by the modes of goodness, passion and ignorance, its form as the embodiment of all subtle causes and gross manifestations within the universe. The Supreme Personality of Godhead does not enter the interaction of material manifestation but merely glances upon nature. ।। 11-22-17 ।।

english translation

सृष्टि के आरंभ में प्रकृति सतोगुण, रजोगुण और अज्ञान के द्वारा ब्रह्मांड के सभी सूक्ष्म कारणों और स्थूल अभिव्यक्तियों के अवतार के रूप में अपना रूप धारण करती है। भगवान का परम व्यक्तित्व भौतिक अभिव्यक्ति की अंतःक्रिया में प्रवेश नहीं करता है बल्कि केवल प्रकृति पर दृष्टि डालता है। ।। ११-२२-१७ ।।

व्यक्तादयो विकुर्वाणा धातवः पुरुषेक्षया । लब्धवीर्याः सृजन्त्यण्डं संहताः प्रकृतेर्बलात् ।। ११-२२-१८ ।।

As the material elements, headed by the mahat-tattva, are transformed, they receive their specific potencies from the glance of the Supreme Lord, and being amalgamated by the power of nature, they create the universal egg. ।। 11-22-18 ।।

english translation

जैसे ही महत-तत्व के नेतृत्व वाले भौतिक तत्व रूपांतरित होते हैं, वे सर्वोच्च भगवान की दृष्टि से अपनी विशिष्ट शक्तियाँ प्राप्त करते हैं, और प्रकृति की शक्ति से समाहित होकर, वे सार्वभौमिक अंडे का निर्माण करते हैं। ।। ११-२२-१८ ।।

सप्तैव धातव इति तत्रार्थाः पञ्च खादयः । ज्ञानमात्मोभयाधारस्ततो देहेन्द्रियासवः ।। ११-२२-१९ ।।

According to some philosophers there are seven elements, namely earth, water, fire, air and ether, along with the conscious spirit soul and the Supreme Soul, who is the basis of both the material elements and the ordinary spirit soul. According to this theory, the body, senses, life air and all material phenomena are produced from these seven elements. ।। 11-22-19 ।।

english translation

कुछ दार्शनिकों के अनुसार सात तत्व हैं, अर्थात् पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि, वायु और आकाश, साथ ही चेतन आत्मा और परमात्मा, जो भौतिक तत्वों और सामान्य आत्मा दोनों का आधार है। इस सिद्धांत के अनुसार, शरीर, इंद्रियां, प्राणवायु और सभी भौतिक घटनाएं इन सात तत्वों से उत्पन्न होती हैं। ।। ११-२२-१९ ।।

षडित्यत्रापि भूतानि पञ्च षष्ठः परः पुमान् । तैर्युक्त आत्मसम्भूतैः सृष्ट्वेदं समुपाविशत् ।। ११-२२-२० ।।

Other philosophers state that there are six elements — the five physical elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) and the sixth element, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That Supreme Lord, endowed with the elements that He has brought forth from Himself, creates this universe and then personally enters within it. ।। 11-22-20 ।।

english translation

अन्य दार्शनिक कहते हैं कि छह तत्व हैं - पांच भौतिक तत्व (पृथ्वी, जल, अग्नि, वायु और आकाश) और छठा तत्व, भगवान का सर्वोच्च व्यक्तित्व। वह परमेश्वर, स्वयं से उत्पन्न तत्वों से संपन्न, इस ब्रह्मांड का निर्माण करता है और फिर व्यक्तिगत रूप से इसमें प्रवेश करता है। ।। ११-२२-२० ।।
