Having determined to perform a sacrifice, he (Sagara) versed in the Vedas, started the initiatory rites for the sacrifice in the company of high priests. ॥ 1-38-24॥

    पौराणामहिते युक्तः पित्रा निर्वासितः पुरात् । तस्य पुत्रोंऽशुमान्नाम असमंजस्य वीर्यवान् ॥ १-३८-२२paurANAmahite yuktaH pitrA nirvAsitaH purAt । tasya putroM'zumAnnAma asamaMjasya vIryavAn ॥ 1-38-22- was banished (of the king) from the capital for his indulgence in malevolent acts. But Asamanja's son was a valorous one, his name was Anshuman. ॥ 1-38-22॥

On seeing the drowning children he used to enjoy with laughter. Thus this son inclined towards evil and torturing the good citizens . - ॥ 1-38-21॥

Rama, the elder son of the king Sagara, Asamanja, always used to grab children and into the waters of River Sarayu - ॥ 1-38-20॥
