    अत्यङ्कुशमिवोद्दामं गजं मदबलोद्धतम् । प्रधावितम् अहम् दैवम् पौरुषेण निवर्तये ॥ २-२३-२०atyaGkuzamivoddAmaM gajaM madabaloddhatam । pradhAvitam aham daivam pauruSeNa nivartaye ॥ 2-23-20I will make destiny, the elephant, running wild on the strength of the rut, unmanageable (even) by the goad, turn back with my valour. ॥ 2-23-20॥

    अद्य मत् पौरुष हतम् दैवम् द्रक्ष्यन्ति वै जनाः । यद्दैवादाहतं तेऽद्य दृष्टं राज्याभिषेचनम् ॥ २-२३-१९adya mat pauruSa hatam daivam drakSyanti vai janAH । yaddaivAdAhataM te'dya dRSTaM rAjyAbhiSecanam ॥ 2-23-19Today people will see destiny defeated by my valour just as they saw your consecration defeated (obstructed) by destiny. ॥ 2-23-19॥

The difference between man and destiny will be manifested today. ॥ 2-23-18॥

    दैवम् पुरुष कारेण यः समर्थः प्रबाधितुम् । न दैवेन विपन्न अर्थः पुरुषः सो अवसीदति ॥ २-२३-१७daivam puruSa kAreNa yaH samarthaH prabAdhitum । na daivena vipanna arthaH puruSaH so avasIdati ॥ 2-23-17In the case of one capable of striking destiny with human efforts it cannot defeat his objective and bring him despondency. ॥ 2-23-17॥

    विक्लवो वीर्य हीनो यः स दैवम् अनुवर्तते । वीराः सम्भावित आत्मानो न दैवम् पर्युपासते ॥ २-२३-१६viklavo vIrya hIno yaH sa daivam anuvartate । vIrAH sambhAvita AtmAno na daivam paryupAsate ॥ 2-23-16Those who are timid and cowardly alone depend on destiny. The valiant with of self respect will not accept it. ॥ 2-23-16॥

    यद्यपि प्रतिपत्तिस्ते दैवी चापि तयोर्मतम् । तथा अपि उपेक्षणीयम् ते न मे तत् अपि रोचते ॥ २-२३-१५yadyapi pratipattiste daivI cApi tayormatam । tathA api upekSaNIyam te na me tat api rocate ॥ 2-23-15It might be your opinion that their dictate is the decree of destiny. Even then, it does not satisfy me. It (destiny) should be ignored. ॥ 2-23-15॥

How will you fulfil the wishes of these enemies miscalled parents? ॥ 2-23-14॥

    यद्ययं किल्बिषाद्भेदः कृतोऽप्येवं न गृह्यते । जायते तत्र मे दुःखं धर्मसङ्गश्च गर्हितः ॥ २-२३-१३yadyayaM kilbiSAdbhedaH kRto'pyevaM na gRhyate । jAyate tatra me duHkhaM dharmasaGgazca garhitaH ॥ 2-23-13I am grieved that even though this plot has been hatched by a treacherous mind, you are not taking it in the right perspective. Censurable is adherence to virtue. ॥ 2-23-13॥
