    अज्ञो भवति वै बालः पिता भवति मन्त्रदः । अज्ञं हि बालमित्याहुः पितेत्येव तु मन्त्रदम् ॥ १५३ ॥ajJo bhavati vai bAlaH pitA bhavati mantradaH । ajJaM hi bAlamityAhuH pitetyeva tu mantradam ॥ 153 ॥’For (a man) destitute of (sacred) knowledge is indeed a child, and he who teaches him the Veda is his father; for (the sages) have always said "child" to an ignorant man, and "father" to a teacher of the Veda.’

    कस्मै येन विभासितोऽयमतुलो ज्ञानप्रदीपः पुरा तद्रूपेण च नारदाय मुनये कृष्णाय तद्रूपिणा । योगीन्द्राय तदात्मनाथ भगवद्राताय कारुण्यतः तच्छुद्धं विमलं विशोकममृतं सत्यं परं धीमहि ॥ १२-१३-१९ ॥kasmai yena vibhAsito'yamatulo jJAnapradIpaH purA tadrUpeNa ca nAradAya munaye kRSNAya tadrUpiNA । yogIndrAya tadAtmanAtha bhagavadrAtAya kAruNyataH tacchuddhaM vimalaM vizokamamRtaM satyaM paraM dhImahi ॥ 12-13-19 ॥I meditate upon that pure and spotless Supreme Absolute Truth, who is free from suffering and death and who in the beginning personally revealed this incomparable torchlight of knowledge to Brahmā. Brahmā then spoke it to the sage Nārada, who narrated it to Kṛṣṇa-dvaipāyana Vyāsa. Śrīla Vyāsa revealed this Bhāgavatam to the greatest of sages, Śukadeva Gosvāmī, and Śukadeva mercifully spoke it to Mahārāja Parīkṣit. ॥ 12-13-19 ॥

After practising cakri, one must undertake the practice of basti.

    एतां वक्ष्यत्यसौ सूतः ऋषिभ्यो नैमिषालये । दीर्घसत्रे कुरुश्रेष्ठ सम्पृष्टः शौनकादिभिः ॥ १२-४-४३ ॥etAM vakSyatyasau sUtaH RSibhyo naimiSAlaye । dIrghasatre kuruzreSTha sampRSTaH zaunakAdibhiH ॥ 12-4-43 ॥O best of the Kurus, the same Sūta Gosvāmī who is sitting before us will speak this Bhāgavatam to the sages assembled in the great sacrifice at Naimiṣāraṇya. This he will do when questioned by the members of the assembly, headed by Śaunaka. ॥ 12-4-43 ॥
