    जरत्कारॊर जरत्कार्वां समुत्पन्नॊ महायशाः आस्तीकः सत्यसंधॊ मां पन्नगेभ्यॊ ऽभिरक्षतु ॥ १-५३-२२ ॥jaratkAròra jaratkArvAM samutpannò mahAyazAH AstIkaH satyasaMdhò mAM pannagebhyò 'bhirakSatu ॥ 1-53-22 ॥'Sauti said, 'The virtuous Janamejaya then, thus addressed by Astika, replied, 'So be it,' and then uttered the word 'Stay' at the snake-sacrifice, from day to day, as he met with the names of the snakes. And all the snakes began to fall into the fire as soon as their names were uttered by the king.'" ॥ 1-53-22 ॥

    विधियज्ञाज् जपयज्ञो विशिष्टो दशभिर्गुणैः । उपांशुः स्यात्शतगुणः साहस्रो मानसः स्मृतः ॥ ८५ ॥vidhiyajJAj japayajJo viziSTo dazabhirguNaiH । upAMzuH syAtzataguNaH sAhasro mAnasaH smRtaH ॥ 85 ॥An offering, consisting of muttered prayers, is ten times more efficacious than a sacrifice performed according to the rules (of the Veda); a (prayer) which is inaudible (to others) surpasses it a hundred times, and the mental (recitation of sacred texts) a thousand times.
